If it is a children’s book providing the age of the book for the readers you can really ham it up. Just take an ordinary situation and add all kinds of adjectives to make something so ordinary funny.
Also when you are writing a fiction story and you use family member’s and friends names it really changes the story line. You will find yourself writing these particular characters more into the story than maybe you originally intended. The names are really important. When using family and friends names make sure you don’t leave any names out that are high on your list of keeping your family and friends forever. Hard feelings on the loved one who has been left out especially if there name could have been supplied instead of a bogus name really hurts.
When writing fiction the characters are the ones which really write the story. Listen to them. Let them talk or interact with each other just as if you were there. The characters will take over the conversation and the story line can take you in so many different ways than you ever intended.
Writing is fun. It is creative and have fun with it whether you publish your writing or not. You can always share your stories with family and friends.
