The next step once you have made the decision to self-publish your book it is important for somebody other than yourself to read it. You are way to close to the book to make any decisions of the story content in terms of editing out words, sentences or chapter's that seem to slow down the book, are repetitive, or un-necessary.
Also, don't forget to get your book as grammatically correct as you can. The editing of your book is so important for many reasons. Many people will not read a self-published book for the simple reason the editing is not up to the standard book which had a professional publisher and editor in their corner from the start.
Getting your book as professionally edited as you can before it is indeed self-published is critical. After your book is published and you want to make changes the publishing company will, of course, charge you for this. It happens to everybody there isn't anyway around it. Being aware that this can happen before it does happen makes you a smarter person and one step ahead of the person who does not take the time to edit their book properly.
Being an author is an awesome feeling. It is such a special feeling that your self-esteem will soar and you will find yourself smiling from the inside as well as on the outside.
The hardest part of this is the marketing. You need a marketing plan. Some books fit into the category of being easier to market than others. It is a hard road to walk down. Not being able to get your book automatically into bookstores when you self-publish is a hard problem to face.
The best way to market your book is by speaking. Yes I mean public speaking. Find groups or organizations in which you can speak about your book and sell your book at the same time.
Keep on writing and self-publish your books. You will find that it will be an accomplishment you will be proud of. Nobody can take that feeling away from you.
