Do mothers and daughters get along like gloves or more like hot coals? It is hard for mothers and daughters to get along without fighting. Daughters think they know everything, and their mothers are always telling them what to do and how to do it. After all their mother is older and wiser but old fashioned. What does she know of how life and technology works today.
The love is there between the two but the sparks do fly. It is easy for both to get their feeling hurt when they try to spend time together and connect in communication.
It is easier for the daughter to go and connect with another woman her mother’s age then it is to communicate with her own mother.
Many times the mother and daughter are so much alike they clash. When the daughter is little it is easier but as she grows older the friction is clearly visible. The daughter is her own person. The mother tries to understand that but no matter how she presents herself to her daughter, the daughter takes offense. “Don’t tell me what to do. I am old enough to make my own decisions.”
When mother and daughter spend a special day together having lunch and shopping this could be a great day for both of them or it could become the worse day of their life. Both the mother and daughter need to make it a special day. Forget all the spats in the past. Just enjoy each other while you have the opportunity.
But with all the friction and verbal fighting the mother and daughter love each other fiercely. It is just hard for each of them to show it. One suggestion is; especially, if your daughter is a young adult, or a full adult, is to give her a hug and kiss each time you see her. When she leaves repeat the gesture and give her a hug and kiss when she is ready to leave the home.
Love and affection go further than any words you could possible say to each other. Enjoy each other’s company while you can. Try not to bicker over nothing. Your daughter is growing up and has to learn the bumps in the road by and experience them for herself. The mother has already been there and done that and wants to try to shield her from life’s lessons.
