You can start reading to your children when they are infants and they sit on your lap listening to your voice and heartbeat.The infant can’t understand what you are saying but they are sitting or lying still and can hear the rhythm of your words, smell your body and be held close and feel loved.
What a way to start out in life. Those infants which actually do get this kind of treatment are on their way to a productive life. These are the children which will love to read and be read to. They will love books in general and their imaginations will soar. Touching book’s looking through the pictures. When the child gets too old to sit on your lap you can sit next to the child and let the child put his/her head on your shoulder or you can put your arm around him/her.
What a special time with the parent, older sibling, uncle or anybody that can read and will take the time and energy to read to a child who is too young or is having a problem reading in school.
Reading to your child helps the child to concentrate, sit still for longer periods of time and learn something about what you are reading about. There isn’t anything else on this entire planet we call earth, that can take the place of a parent reading to their children. It inspires the search for knowledge and loving to go to school by achieving the goals and responsibilities into college and beyond.
Reading to your children is like reaching for the stars. There isn’t any way you can touch a star but you can keep trying and trying. The search for knowledge is never ending the love of reading has taken a firm root in that child who will be an adult.
When reading to a young child not only does the child love the one on one attention you have with him/her but you will love the way the child responds to your reading. If you child asks questions about the story you are reading, it means that he/she was really listening. Reading is precious. Time together with your child is precious. They are only young for a short time. This is great quality time for both of you.
