Depression and the Holidays
The holidays are upon us once again. Where has the time gone? I for one can’t believe it is that time of year again. It is hard not to remember the holidays in by gone days. Somehow those were always the best.
Now there is pressure from everywhere. If you have a big family and have friends you are pulled in all directions to buy presents, go to dinners, parties and on and on. When you become frazzled and say I can’t take another day of this get me out of here. You mean it.
Now on the other hand there are people who don’t have anyone in their lives. They are completely and utterly alone. This is the time of year when depression becomes so severe it can lead to suicide. Some of the signs of depression are:
When you don’t want to get out of bed in the morning.
When you don’t want to get up off your favorite chair.
when you can’t put 2 words together.
Speaking has almost stopped.
When you don’t take any interest in anything.
Life literally is passing you by.
So what can you do to get yourself out of this depression:
Start by taking a shower and putting on clean clothes.
Clean up your space.
Go outside.
Take a walk. Look at the birds and the grass.
Take your dog or a neighbor’s for a walk.
Join some kind of group you are interested in.
Help others. Nothing big but if you keep your eyes open there is always to do an act of kindness somewhere.
Volunteer – helping others helps yourself.
The holiday season is here to stay. Try to make the best of it.
