Short Summary of some great spiritual insights given by Rev. Dr. Steve Scheibner (almost the Pilot of American Airlines Flight 11 - 9/11/11) at his speech at the 48th Annual Louisiana Governor's (Bobby Jindal) Prayer Breakfast (03/28/2012)

I was blessed to attend the recent 48th Annual Louisiana Governor's (Bobby Jindal) Prayer Breakfast on 03/28/2012. I attended the Breakfast at a table with others who are in the Hippocratic Resource (http://www.lahealthprofs4life.org/). This article is based upon, credited and dedicated to The Rev. Dr. Steve Scheibner, an American Airlines Pilot and Minister who was the main speaker at the Governor's Prayer Breakfast, where he shared about being a "Borrowed-Time Believer" as opposed to just being a "Someday Saint!"

Scheibner shared his poignant experiences of having been prepared to pilot Flight 11 on September 10, 2001 only to be bumped and discover on 9/11/11 that "someone else (Thomas McGuinness) died in his place," as that was the first hijacked plane to crash into one of the Twin Towers. Scheibner noted how this whole life changing experience can be known as "substitutionary atonement," which also fit well in with his overall life objective, which had been written 20 years earlier, that included the ultimate goal of hearing our God say to him, "Well done my good and faithful servant!(Mt. 25:21, Luke 19:17)"

"Sequence Failed Continuity" (Airline lingo for "the trip never made it to its destination") is the term Scheibner viewed on his computer screen when he finally realized on 9/11 what had happened. Scheibner goes on to provide many great insights about what this event taught him, especially in how to now live "with a sense of urgency." He used the Gospel of John 21 to denote the clear message he has received from God that may well apply to all of us.

Just like the Apostles did even after having been witnesses to the Cross and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, we tend to gravitate to the easier path of being fishers of only fish and not other men and women. Peter and the Apostles decided to go back to their former work instead of the Commission they had received - like we all sometimes do.

Jesus asks of us, like He did in John 21,
1. What are you doing here?
2. Have you caught any fish?
3. What are you fishing for in life?
And ultimately, he asks Peter three times and us if we really LOVE Him - using the highest description of Love, "AGAPE," that ties back to "substitutionary atonement: "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13)

Scheibner gives an appropriate dedication and recognition to
Thomas McGuinness, the pilot who did fly and die per Flight 11 on 9/11. None of us knows when our time for departure from this world will be, so we must live each day as if it were our last.

Still, as Scheibner also so aptly noted, SOMEONE ELSE also Died for him and all of us: Jesus Christ. Am I willing to walk with him and do as He calls us: "Feed My Lambs, Tend My Sheep."
