Reflections on my recent birthday and the unfortunate current trends to remove safeguards for the unborn and born ....

March 5th was my 60th Birthday - that made me eligible for Meals-on-Wheels per the Council on Aging! (lol!)

I really enjoyed the day off, went to Mass with my wife, enjoyed Pioneer Woman "Rib Eye Steaks With Cowboy Butter," sipped on some Merlot and devoured some Coconut Cake (with many candles on it to blow out (lol!)... my better-half prepared all the fixings!

And what better birthday present could there have been than for the Season of Lent to begin the next day, on Ash Wednesday, to better prepare me and my sinful nature for Easter by practicing alms-giving, fasting and prayer???

And as this is March, noted as Social Work Month, I can't help be reflect on how blessed I have been in my profession to be able to advocate for people, unborn and born, of all (st-)ages (of life).

The only sad note that I have to make today is that I have to update this "Set Me Free" poem that I had written in 2001 with one word ("OUTSIDE"), as some doctors and many legislators have recently given a "thumbs down" to protecting unborn and BORN children - whom won't ever be able to hear the words and song, "Happy Birthday To You!:"

Here I am within (OUTSIDE!) the womb
Hoping for life and not yet the tomb
Some say that I am life
Others allow birth control pills, saline, suctioning, RU 486, partial birth, or a knife
To terminate my existence and spell my doom

Please allow to me the life chance
Even if I resulted from circumstance
I'm growing as humans do
I even look somewhat like you
Can't you feel me move as if to dance?

Many long to bare
Yet some cannot but still care
They'll take me if you won't
And love me if you don't
They'll give me a life, a life that I can share

So please promote life for me
It's too late for the many millions not set free (especially for African-Americans and other minorities targeted by Planned "Barren-hood")
Who since 1973 have had no say
As to pursuit of life, liberty or happiness in any way
Pray to God, that's got to be the key!
