Holy Week Memories ... Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, Easter ... interspersed with Running in the Crescent City Classic with New Orleans Musicians Clinic Team in 2019.
With Holy Week upon us, I recently received a call from a Secretary of one of the Churches we attend with the invitation to be one of the 12 folks to get their feet washed by the Pastor on Holy Thursday!
At first, I declined, since I had done this once before and wanted to give someone else the chance ... and teased my caller that "I'd have to cut my toenails better and make sure that my socks don't have holes in them!" (Lol!)
But the caller insisted that I go ahead and join the dozen, so I did. I just may have to call my De La Salle High School buddy Podiatrist, Marshall Baer, DPM, for a consult beforehand!
On a serious side, back in the 90s, I was humbled by this experience at St. George when Fr. Tom Ranzino was our Pastor.
All 12 of us selected had to go up by the Altar and sit in chairs facing the congregation while Fr. Tom and a Deacon performed the ritual.
Me and fellow parishioner, Rudi Lanehart, held hands when Fr. came by, and we cried after some nervous energy of smiling, as we noted how poignant this reenactment experience had humbled and enlightened us so much!
Good Friday - Passover for my beloved Jewish comrades, whom my feet have also climbed up with at times to be a "Fiddler On The Roof!" - will be a solemn day to recall what God has "footed" for us all ... and I'll also recall how Moses was once told by God to "remove your sandals from your feet ... for this is Holy Ground!"
On Holy Saturday, I'll be "peddling it" in New Orleans for the Crescent City Classic (CCC) 10 K and running with the New Orleans Musicians Clinic Charity Team to help support musicians in need of health insurance ... so that they can take a "Closer Walk and Run" with you and me!
And on Easter, my feet will join the Holy Women of Jerusalem at the empty tomb as they rejoiced and ran on their feet to tell others the "Good News" of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ!
Lastly, I will join the two Disciples in a heartfelt promenade (and run) with the Resurrected Lord on the Road to Emmaus (CCC in New Orleans) ... when they (and I) came (come) to know Him in the Breaking of the Bread ...
If you want to join me, "The Man Wid Da Yella Hat," in this great fun group for a worthy cause (There would not be a real New Orleans without our dear, beloved musicians!), here's a link: https://runsignup.com/KeithJohnPaulHorcasitasLCSWYatMusician?fbclid=IwAR1g0_3KEKChja-kplcOFumkMyYg3gm3yvs23Uq54KLNqB-XbRkixUDLPd8
Passover and Easter Blessings on All!

I'm glad that I do not have to follow all the Roman Catholic rituals that keep Catholics like you busy this time of the year, like washing of the feet. But I do admire that you still have time to participate in charitable events that also are very good exercise for those who can still run. I wish that I could… I would.
You made me think of my feet. The left foot, after a blood clot swelled my entire left leg and foot out of proportion, has finally retreated to the point where I may be able to fit in my left shoe again. Using sandals during my recent Caribbean excursion resulted in severe sunburn on my toes that extensive foot washing has not7 alleviated, yet. But it does make a rather strange sight what with my support hose with open toes creating a very white foot with bright red toes sticking out. Something I'm sure that the good priests that oversee these things would reject as too grotesque to have done in public. ;-)
