a review of the film based off Lovecraft's short story of the same name.

The movie is dead on with the short story of the same name but at the same time it showcases three other stories of Lovecraft's.   "The Music of Erich Zhan"  and "Dreams Within The Witch House" were well represented in this movie it was an independant film and it does have a feel of the Blair Witch Project but masterfully done.  The filmakers involved with this film did a hell of a job and must of really read the stories when putting this project together.   I've seen Dagon and was impressed,  but watching this film I was really taken by the macabre nature they brought Erich Zhan to life.   I could see where that story would bring about the birth of bands Black Sabbath and Metallica because of the character would play the violin.   The movie's character started with a man named Alex and in that it becomes the sub plot that would be as dark as the stories -- written in true Lovecraftian nature.   In the 1970s up to the 1990s there were a few Lovecraft based movies but they were not exactly dead on to the short stories they were based by.   But here I am as a writer of the Cthulhu Mythos,  I will say these stories were kept faithful to how they were meant to be done.  I watched the film though there are some harsh reviews of this movie -- but I wish they were closer to the story than Dagon was.   It was close but should of been done a tad better.  If you watch this movie read the short stories first they were based on.   I want to have a talk with Ivan Zuccon, because Lovecraft doesn't use nudity in his writing and Zuccon thought it would be interesting to try and make this into an erotic horror film -- dude, what were you thinking.   The movie wasn't bad per say -- it did have a few good fright moments in there but I will say watch it before you read the short story or if you read the short stories, read some of his followers afterward.
