Why wait to think about the good feelings you want to have? Think the thought now and give the feeling a chance to become real.
In a television commercial a lady drifts awake to find a handsome man in her bed, a drawer full of jewels, a unicorn in the backyard, and a stylish lavatory in the bathroom. “Don’t wake up,” she says.
Embedded in the commercial is an intriguing concept: How will you feel if everything in your life is as you want it? The commercial has a fun “snap” back to “reality” but the concept is valid – how would you like to feel?
Probably pretty good. Well, why wait? If you can imagine how you want to feel in your wonderful life, then why wait? Why put off such joy to some future time, if ever? You can decide to practice your good feeling right here, right now.
The knack is to focus on the desired feeling and not on all the things that “must occur” in order for you to experience such bliss. It’s quite a decision – to choose to practice feeling good even though the unicorn hasn’t shown up yet. Thought + Feeling = Creation (manifestation.) Your thought of choosing to feel good, added to your practicing feeling good (deciding to act as if you are enjoying your life and treating others from that perspective,) will result in good and pleasing situations. That’s the way it works, not the other way around.
“When this happens...then I will feel good.” Sound familiar? But, why? Your feeling good (or certainly better) is not mortgaged to someone or something else. It may appear to be, and you may reinforce that illusion with decision, but the equation remains: thought + feeling = creation.
“Oh yeah?” you might say. “If I stop working to get those miscreants and circumstances to change, they’ll run amuck and I’ll never feel good!” Of course if the miscreants haven’t shaped up by now (despite all of your hard work) they probably won’t tomorrow. Release them to their own experience. Challenge your thinking to align with your gut-level desired feeling of joy on earth.
In this time of Thanksgiving why not practice, pretend, rehearse – use whatever word works for you – the way you want to feel about your life here and now and be grateful that you can do this. If the result is pleasing, great! You can always return to lesser feelings, hostage to what others do/don’t do.
There may not be a unicorn in your backyard just yet, but you can feel and act as if it’s there. And, who knows...
