All year long I work in my cramped little office at pounding away at my computer turning out short stories and novels to tantalize my reading public. So when the time rolled around for me to take a much needed vacation took to the road in a rented 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee and headed for wide open spaces to visit. This year I elected to first spend a leisurely weekend at the spacious San Antonio's Hotel Contessa. Nearing ten in the morning I crossed the state line into San Antonio Texas. I drove along Market Street to until I reached my destination. As I drove up in front of the hotel the doorman escorted me inside. The valet parked my Jeep and we entered the four story atrium lobby. While I savored a melon-pear mojito at the Cork Bar overlooked by the lobby the concierge checked me into one of the 265 unique guest suites.
Eventually I settled into my suite. I looked around my room at the many amenities . It reminded me of spacious loft apartment. Its Spanish style décor featured earth tones, warm reds, oversized furnishings, exposed brick-concrete walls and a picturesque view of the beach from the living room terrace. The bathroom incorporated a shower, walk-in tub Jacuzzi, plush towels and robes featuring the hotel’s logo. A posh king size bed dominate the lightheartedly decorated master bedroom.
Long about lunch time I went down to the Las Ramblas, the hotel’s restaurant that offered authentic Spanish cuisine and a stellar view of the River Walk. There I ordered their famous spareribs and chile queso, (a pepper stuffed with pulled pork and paella) that tantalized my taste buds. After lunch I strolled along the beach taking in the perfect scenic view.
I danced the night away in the many night spots that lined River Walk. Before calling it a night I took a dip in the rooftop-pool, a twenty four-hour fitness center then had a massage in the spectacular hotel Aveda spa.
Monday rolled around and it was time to move on. Before heading down the road to my next destination I savor the ambiance of my room and take one final look over the scene from my terrace. I say one last good-bye to the great time I spent that weekend and said a little prayer to God that my next destination be just as breathtaking.
