Writing a successful book series is a daunting task. It is a big puzzle that takes tons of planning. A little planning goes a long way. You must know the end before you write the beginning . So long as you know what you’re aiming to achieve with the series and where it’s going you will succeed. . Otherwise, if you’re stuck halfway through and don’t know what to do next you’ll surly flop.
KNOW WHERE THE STORY IS GOING
Before you begin writing the first installment you have to determine the characters’ desires and where they’d end up at the end. You have to know all the ins and outs. To help you keep the details of the storyline and characters straight, keep documents of notes on your computer that you title, “What’s Really Going On.” Also, each book as it follows the structure.
MAKE A PLAN, AND PACE YOURSELF
It is important to know where the series is going from the very start. Whether you’re writing a mystery series or even a series that is more relationship- or school-based, it’s important to know where the characters will end up at the end.
Outlining is your friend! Also, you want to make sure to stagger what happens in each book—you don’t want to load up one book with lots of twists and turns and conclusions and then have nothing to talk about in the next book. It’s all about pace and keeping readers wanting more.”
