What the world should see in an american president.
What happened to malice toward none and charity toward all? I suppose it went by the way of equal rights and all men are created equal.
Beyond the soulful notes sang by Aretha Franklin and the regal stance of Barrack Obama, what notice did we take of the horrible blight that plagues America? The eyes filled with tears... the hope that is but promise not inevitable. Which woman did you see engrossed in the pomp and ceremony was beaten and raped the night before by a controlling husband or boyfriend? Which one of the children did you see looking on, some too young to have any idea of what was occurring in the history of America, was molested by the man or woman holding their hands, or which innocent one was beaten by the one presenting to the public that false face of good parenting? Surely, there were no signs hung around their neck nor were there any visible marks to distinguish them one from another. They were, however, there. And as President Obama spoke of change in policy and an end to the wars fought abroad, they (the battered and abused) thought what of the war that rages inside of me and the one being waged against me. The bell of freedom does not ring loud enough for those who are enslaved by tormentors that use their fist and members to control their wives and girlfriends. Nor is there being lent a hearing ear to the little ones made to feel guilty because their innocence has been ripped from them by the adult they trusted to care for them. All subjected to the pain and shame inflicted upon them for the sole purpose of an animals self gratification. Where is the promise of change for them? Where is the promise of change for us.. we the invisible, the hopeless and the voiceless?
As the black prince charming and his cinderella danced to the sweet and touching song sang by Beyonce, there among them were battered women and those who were abused as children. Still we only saw the beauty of the promised change and noticed not the horror that was hidden beneath the tuxedos and gowns of those attending the court of the Prince of Change. How blind we chose to remain? How deaf to the cries of the battered, raped and abused we have become? And what a great distance we put between us and them so as not to be affected by their shame and guilt. It is better for them to fain innocence and lack of knowledge than it is for them to act upon the raging madness that exist among us. That rage is control, rape and abuse. Invisible and soundless to those who see not and hear not and act not.
The balls are over and the bands have all gone home. And still, for us, there still is no change. Things remain the same. We must rally, those of us who are the invisible, the hopeless and the voiceless so that we too may be heard, seen and given hope. Those of us who survive day-to-day should gather together, one and all, to introduce a real change in our government.. a change that will forcefully address the terror and the horror of battery, abuse, rape and child abuse and molestation.
Let not there remain hopelessness but let there come to exist hope in a law that protects and not rejects the cries of the meek, weak and innocent ones. Let there come to exist an accountability of those who inflict pain on innocent women and children behind closed doors and put them away in locked cages. For the peace of mind that we so deserve, we should gather to enact laws that would put the animals where they are supposed to be.. in a system where they can no longer be in control but instead be controlled. A time indeed for the hopeless, the invisible and the voiceless. A time for change.
