When we write an article or a book, we consider ourselves to be "experts" to some extent in the subject that we have selected to write about. In my case, EXTRAORDINARY VISITS, Miracles Through Divine Intervention, is a subject that I can speak with integrity and a wealth of experience. Therefore, I consider myself to be an expert in my genre; although I am continuously studying and learning about this subject.
People will buy our books if they know about it, and in order for them to know about our work, we must promote it constantly. After reading Dan Poynter's best-selling book, The Self-Publishing Manual, I realized that I can follow his suggestions, and with my own knowledge and expertise, develop a good promotion plan/schedule for myself. This knowledge is available to each of us, with little to no cost financially; however, time is an investment that must be dedicated to this process. Afterall, "I" should be worth the investment, don't you agree?
One of the best ways to promote our work is to write about it! Write articles, write about why you chose the topic of your book, write about yourself and how you connect to your book. The major point here is to promote your book anyway you can, as often as you can. Since we are writers/authors; writing articles about our subject matter would be the general theme to explore. Write confidently, and let your particular knowledge and experience come through. You can post your articles online, post them in newsletters, ezines, and within your own webpages, or webpages on sites that you are a member.
Online articles are a beginning; however, writing articles directed to major publications, magazines, newspapers and wire services should be another goal. Just as we did with our publishing queries, we must never give up placing our book out there for others to link for further descriptions and snippets and/or excerpts which are usually an inviting tool.
Always link your article to as many other sites as possible in order to draw further attention to you as the author, as well as to your book. Links are great ways to begin a following with readers and interested parties. Armed with expertise, our published book, and confidence in our work and ourselves, we will develop a path to building our future in a positive manner. The goal is to familiarize ourselves as an expert in the field/subject matter chosen to write about.
Be persistent, and relentless in promoting your book/poem, etc; and as you do with writing, set aside a daily time space for promoting your work every single day. Consistent, Persistent, Confident.... Make that your personal goal when promoting your book.
We must love what we do, and it's wonderful to be happy with our finished product; however, we should never stop building confidence in ourselves in order that the work we love will be read by others. Afterall, I write to fill a need within myself; but at the same time, I hope that the books I write will inspire and uplift others to never give up hope. It is never to late to reach for our dreams...and better yet....fulfill them!
