WHAT NEXT?
This morning started off like every other morning this week. It seemed that the necessary was going to be unobtainable. It's not hard to create an attitude of despair rather than an attitude of optimism whenever we don't have control.
I was again reminded of the song, "It's Jesus and Me."
The obvious is seldom the actual and so was the case this morning. The obvious was The task at hand would not be obtainable today. So in the midst of my frustration and seemingly overwhelming lack of faith, I hunkered down, gritted my teeth in determination and changed my perspective. And I asked a simple question.. . I think God relishes in this question, because it acknowledges His Sovereignty and aptly shows I am relinquishing my will to His better judgment..."Okay, God, what next?"
Then the wheels began to turn, A couple of phone calls were made and a plan of action ensued. Thus, the actual began to reveal itself.
Even though this plan was not my original plan I was later to find out that it was God's plan.
The necessary steps were taken and later rather than sooner I was on my way.
It really fascinates me as I grow older to see the hand of God in spite of myself.
May I inject a scripture here which seems apropos, Proverbs 19:21...
"Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails."
Finally on
my way I had created quite a thirst and in the distance I saw some golden arches, so I decided to take the next exit.
As I started up the ramp I saw a car broken down on the side of the ramp and a family of four were making their way up it.
I stopped and rolled down the window and asked them if they wanted to ride up. They thanked me and said are you sure to which I replied it's hot and I'm going to the golden arches to get me a sweet tea. So they gladly crawled in the car and we Headed that way.
I asked them were they thirsty and they said no thank you they were just looking for a U-Haul place which happened to be a mile or so down the road. The golden arches was running over with customers so needless to say I didn't go there but rather took them to their destination. They were very gracious and thanked me over and over. The father even offered to buy my lunch but I thanked him and told him they were my good deed for the day. The mother smiled and said of a surety I was theirs.
As I drove away I was reminded of the song, "Jesus, Use Me."
The two songs I've mentioned in this writing are older than a lot of us reading this.
But their relevancy is just as appropriate as the days in which they were penned.
Many times we question our very purpose for being, but when we walk with the Lord, He Continually reminds us that we are given opportunity to fulfill our purpose; to be His hand extended. It doesn't require a lot of money, or possessions, or social status.
It simply requires action on our part. Time, consideration, self-sacrifice or perhaps a more up to date word could be inconvenience.
Obedience is a hard pill to swallow nowadays because self-will and rebellion are very prominent indicators of the heart.
My actions today changed the time table of MY schedule, but oh, the joy of knowing I was able to be a blessing to someone whose need was greater than my own confirmed God showed me HIS answer to my simple question above.
What next??? For sure, God knows!
