The Rearview Mirror-Hindsight is 20/20
It's funny how most times in my dreams, if I'm moving, I'm driving!
Probably if the truth were known, I've driven a million miles or more in my lifetime.
When we go to a new city, I usually can get lost and find my way around after only a few times.
My sense of direction has always been favorable, thankfully.
When I started delivery routes, my rearview and side view mirrors became very crucial.
Many times in backing into a place, my side view mirrors became my primary focus.
As I'm looking ahead, my eyes are constantly looking into my mirrors to see if other vehicles are near, or passing, or if I'm pretty much alone on some of the back roads on my routes.
As I've seen on my Facebook newsfeed this weekend, three of my friends lost their dads this weekend. Unbelievable!
It's evident that the reaper is making his sweep.
Just as the enemy of our souls wishes to fill up hell, God wants to fill up heaven even more!
We must let our focus continue to be onward and upward!
The old saying, "Hindsight is 20/20" is so true .
We find ourselves in all kinds of dilemmas as we trek our world in search of love, success, fame, popularity, and other personal fulfillment aspects.
In the process, we find heartache, failure, distrust, aloneness, and loneliness. These many time overwhelm us.
But then...in retrospect, we look back and see how had it not been for the ditches and failures, we wouldn't have the perspectives for life that we do now.
Yes, hindsight is 20/20.
Love is blind, we can't see the forest for the trees, we make fools out of ourselves, searching for life's meaning or any other category we find ourselves following after.
All the while, these events are actually tests of life from which lessons are learned.
As we hear so often, you can't have a testimony without a test...and you can't have a message without a mess.
For some, both are required to make the saying "hindsight is 20/20" apparent.
Life is usually describable in two categories--passive or aggressive.
We see some people who are passive. Saved or not, their lifestyles are pretty much a status quo. They're laid back, easy going, not easily ruffled.
Whether in their home life or job or spiritual life, they seem to be steady. No rush, not easily tempted. Seemingly the devil doesn't really bother them. Life is bland to a point.
If they become ill, as some people I've seen through the years, their condition is chronic, ongoing, slowly deteriorating.
Then you have the aggressive type. They're highly motivated, easily agitated, short fuses, and driven.
Someone of this nature is always attempting to accomplish, competitive in their job or social circle, taking risks regardless of the consequences, many times to prove a point.
But in either case, you will find that they will tell you "hindsight is 20/20".
Even though they're different, they're much the same.
The rearview mirror reminds them of where they've been.
Anytime we look in the rearview mirror, we will see things we've already passed.
So, no matter what we face in life, no matter what we pass up in life, when we reflect, we can see those things many times with a clearer and more understandable perspective.
We may never have the answer to the question why, but sometimes we don't need to know the answer.
Just be thankful that life continues to afford us the opportunities to see how the rearview mirror brings a clearer picture.
God expects us to fail...if not, Jesus would've had no need to come to earth and give His life a ransom for many. Repentance is a way of life, only until we finally arrive in our eternal home.
Our self-righteous attitude says we are self-sufficient.
A popular saying I see constantly on social media is, "I've got this."
But really, we don't, no matter how self-righteous or self-sufficient we are.
God will make us realize the reality of that fact sooner or later.
We must acknowledge that we are needy people. God expects us to do what we are capable of doing, and He does the things we are incapable of doing.
As I look back through my rearview mirror of life, and say "Hindsight is 20/20", it makes me acknowledge how much greater my need of God is because of what I see.
"I've got this", is not uttered from my lips.
Asking God to supply my needs which I can supply myself is not even a consideration.
Kinda sets me in mind of a song from days gone by, "the shopping cart"...give me this, give me that, etc.
Folks tend to think God is a sugar daddy. We can make our demands and expect results.
But, He doesn't work that way. His love is endless and unconditional.
Nevertheless, He doesn't relinquish the consequence mode.
Sowing and reaping continue.
So, my hope is to learn from the past, continue to look in my rearview mirror, and see those things which were sins or poor choices and press forward for less sin and better choices.
The rearview mirror, hindsight is 20/20 effect...where would we be without it?
