As I was scrolling my Fb newsfeed, I saw more than one comment stating praying for a quick healing, a quick answer, a speedy recovery, and so on. 

Indeed, we live in an instant society, one which requires little perseverance and no patience…for anything.

We want instant tea, quick grits, and other items which can be nooked for just a few seconds in a microwave.

When I uttered the words, a quick fix, to myself, my mind kicked into gear, so I will see where it takes me.

America, with all her current woes, is still the most prosperous and progressive country in the world. A quick fix is our specialty. 

As I watch different stories on my Roku tv and see magnificent buildings in Japan, China, Russia, and other foreign countries, I’m still thankful to be a Southern born and raised American. 

Although other countries have their positives, their systems of government rule and religious control minimize my desire for ever relocating there. As I stated a while back, there’s places I’d like to go, but the getting there keeps me here. So I rest my case. 

What makes an individual so intent on a quick fix? There’s no doubt some philosophical answers to that question. Just search online and you will see the many and varied subjects to which a quick fix relates.

One writer suggested, “Over the years, the human race has shown a growing affinity for quick fixes, preferring them over more involved solutions and utilizing them at every opportunity. Part of this is due to our lives being much more fast-paced than they used to be, so we tend to look for ways to cut corners and save us time. However, the quickest fix also tends to be the most convenient solution, which raises a host of other connotations, including apathy and laziness. While it’s natural for a person to seek a quick fix every now and then, many of us are utilizing quick fixes before ever really considering alternatives. This kind of mindset is being referred to as quick-fix syndrome.”

Then another writer gives a different perspective, a God perspective I prefer to embrace, because God proves through His word that He isn’t into quickness.

“Looking at examples from the Bible, I believe that God generally isn’t into quick fixes. Here’s a few reasons why I think so:

1. God has His own timing 

2. God values processes 

3. God is displaying His patience towards us 

4. God wants us to win the crown of life”

 In all four of these reasons, which I didn’t divulge his specific scripture references, it’s apparent God’s plan and purpose for our being has nothing to do with a quick fix lifestyle. 

God took six days for His creation, which He could’ve done in an instant. But His plan from the beginning was to teach man that life was to be a process. A time to be born, a time to die; and so on. 

He allowed Noah 75 years to build an ark, which was to prove God’s patience toward His creation. Needless to say, only the righteous 8 who believed God were saved. 

Jesus himself stated in Matthew 24:13, “But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.” Endurance has no quick fix. 

Now, man has ‘progressed’ to the mindset that he no longer needs God, because man has become self-sufficient. His lifestyle is one of hurry, worry, bury, with little to no thought of the after life. 

If you’ve succumbed to the ‘quick fix’ mentality, perhaps a God’s eye view would be a good alternative. Spending time alone with God gives us new perspectives, new impartations for a fuller, richer, quieter life. 

 

To everything there is a season... 

 

In His Time

 

God has a purpose for all of our lives,

A work must be done, beginning inside

The heart of each one, that we might find out

How "living by faith" is what life's about!

 

For some it takes months-and others it's years

For faith to arise and conquer our fears-

But we can be sure it's all in God's time,

Just as this poem has rhythm and rhyme!

 

Just as the ocean tide goes out and in,

Just as the blood of Christ cleanses our sin-

God has appointed a time just for you,

To change your perspective-broaden your view!

 

Faith comes by hearing-by hearing the Word,

Thru faith comes a voice we never have heard-

Faith gives you courage to walk the unknown,

To show forth a light you never have shown!

 

Don't be afraid to take off your mask,

Let Him be Lord is all He will ask-

Yes, in His time, friend, I hope you will see

A life that is full, a life that is free!
