3 words...how many times a day do we hear someone say them, or even say them ourselves?

Regardless of the subject, regardless of the situation, "I know it" is the catch phrase, or the revised twenty first century version, "I know, right?"

Many times I think saying it is just a knee jerk reaction to justify our actions or reactions to whatever topic is being discussed. Or simply just a filler. 

Is it because those three words give the indication that we don't need to be reminded or even enlightened to another alternative?

Hebrews says "For him that knows to do good and doeth it not to him it is sin.”

Two words stand out here- know and do.

We can know things, things that are important, things that perhaps inspire us, even things which are intended to enrich our lives. But...to do something with the things we know requires two important factors—action and change.

Some people will agree, others disagree, and that's our individual prerogatives.

When we learn new things which increase our knowledge, it may bring a sense of pride, in the fact that now we may know more than someone else about a given subject. 

I've rarely spoken to someone with an addiction or 'habit', whether its use is beneficial or detrimental, who won't respond in the course of the conversation with "I know it."

For example, if we know the effects that alcohol or drugs can have upon not only our bodies, but our minds, yet we consume them with disregard, and end up having a wreck and killing an innocent individual, then it's evident the consequences of our choices will be a serious factor. When confronted about the event, the guilty party may inject, "yeah, I know it." 

My focus though, in this writing, is what do we "really" know?

From a Christian standpoint, do we ‘really know’ Jesus, or do we just know what the preacher says from the pulpit, or what somene else may tell they believe about Him?

When it becomes a pinpointed direct question to us as an individual, how we allow the words to affect us determine the depth of our knowledge. 

Some say the word “know” appears 763+ times in the Bible.  

Jesus was explicit in His teaching the disciples of the ‘knowing’ and ‘doing’ correlation.  He said “By this will everyone know you are my disciple, if you have love one to another.”

“If you continue in my word, then you are my disciples; and you shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

The apostle Paul had an eye opening experience on the road to Damascus which caused him to be blind for 3 days…quite an oxymoron, eye opening experience that caused blindness. He was quite a man, very knowledgeable in the law of Moses, a Pharisee, before his conversion he would’ve fit right in with our western culture. I know, right? Haha! But once he heard from heaven, he said “I count all things but loss for the excellency of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord…”

Again he said, “That I may know him, in the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death…”

Over and over Paul admonished the churches and his peers to not only know Christ, but to follow him as he followed Christ. He is one of the most profound New Testament writers because he revealed how ‘knowing’ and ‘doing’ go hand in hand, once an individual completely surrenders his heart, mind and soul to Jesus. 

So, I will end on this note—an old song I’ve sung through the years and continue to do so even today…”Do you know my Jesus? Do you know my friend? Have you heard that he loves you, and that He will abide til the end?”
