Kody’s humanistic young child’s actions at the time of opening his gifts further fortified my thinking that a smart dog, in the way he/she has been trained, may have the basic intelligence of a three year old child.

Amazing Doggie

Last Sunday, January 31, 2010 was my beat friend Kody’s sixth birthday and I had decided to have a birthday party for him.

Invitations had been sent to Kody's two legged friends that included his four legged friend that he’d either barked at, kissed or sniffed.

All in all we had twenty-four two legged along with six four legged friends.

We, the people had a buffet of lox and bagels along with all the stuff that goes with lox and bagels, also pastrami, ham and turkey along with salad and potato salad and breads and rolls of many sorts.

Needles to say our doggie party also included – for the four legged – wine, vodka, tequila,  scotch, beer and whatever goes with vodka and tequila.

There was not so much as a growl between the four legged and the two legged got along pretty well also.

What was so amazing to me is that after the chocolate birthday cake was served – to the two legged only, of course – Kody and I opened his birthday gifts and, as a young child would, somehow knowing the gifts were for him, Kody sat at my side watching intently as each package was opened and the gift inside sniffed, then, as a young child, Kody’s eyes would shift to the remaining unopened packages. After all were opened and he took the one gift he really wanted: a beef  basted bone, Kody strolled away from the mound of wrappings.

Kody’s humanistic young child’s actions at the time of opening his gifts further fortified my thinking that a smart dog, in the way he/she has been trained, may have the basic intelligence of a three year old child.

The next day Kody told me that he would like to give all of his birthday gifts, other than the beef basted bone, to kids that didn’t have a daddy so his birthday treasures were carted to our local animal shelter.

Pretty amazing doggie, huh?
