Many are saying Senator Barack Obama’s recent speech is stirring up a desire for, finally, open and honest dialogue about race. I’m wondering if the REAL truth on the subject will be brought to light. His speech was, in my opinion, brilliant, and he was the only one who could have delivered such an indictment and clarion call simultaneously.
Being a product of both black and white parents made it all the more powerful having lived on both sides of the issues. Yes, we do need real dialogue on racial issues, but not simply dialogue for the sake of conversing. We need open and honest dialogue between persons who truly have a heart for REAL racial harmony. That is the only way it will work. Open and honest has to really represent all that those words imply.
As the church, the Body of Christ, we should be leading the call for the race issue to be resolved and dissolved. Especially, since we know the Originator or all ethnicities. According to God, He is the Father of all nations, kindreds and tongues. If that is actually so, why do we not speak of the fact that there are NO different "races" of people? Why do we not emphasize that we are all the same, all a part of the ONE race that was created? The HUMAN RACE!
If we would, as children of the Father of all creation, champion THAT one real truth I believe many racial issues would resolve themselves. It would be kind of hard to think of yourself as better than someone with a different skin color when you know you are the same as they are. The ONLY real difference is the color of your skin.
I am so thrilled to live in a time where young people are dealing with each other based on character content instead of skin color. There are more multicultural relationships now than ever before in the history of the world. On all socio-economical levels, people are discovering that we really are all the same. We feel the same things, desire the same things, we have some of the same hopes and aspirations for life, love and the pursuit of happiness.
There are so many singles in the church world today, so many in the Kingdom of God who would make someone a wonderful mate. Yet, many of them will never have that opportunity to do so because they are waiting on an "ideal" to come into their life. If the bottom line in a relationship or wanting to be in one, is to have someone who genuinely wants to be with you and that you want to be with why should skin color matter more than the character of a person? I call it "culture-lock".
Isn’t it time to get "UNlocked" and get discovered? In my book, Undiscovered Treasures; God’s Take On Multicultural Relationships, if you decide you’d like to know more about God’s desire for your future; you will be informed, inspired, as well as encouraged to "unlock" yourself, your future and your destiny.
The female R & B group EnVogue had a song back in the day that said “Free your mind and the rest will follow”, however, before EnVogue Jesus said to us “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (St. John 8:36, NIV). That means if you allow Him, Christ will not only free your mind He will free your heart to love and embrace all people, regardless of ethnicity or skin color, just as He does.
Back to the original question “Will The Real Truth Be Told About Race?” Will those who know that there is only ONE race of people, the human race, begin to lift their voice so the dialogue can begin? Will the true proponents of racial harmony shout louder than the dissenters and let the truth be told? I think yes!
