In the aftermath of the Presidential election, political pundits are either amazed that the country voted its morals, or they are busy insisting that they too know right from wrong. They point to codes of ethics. But ethics are like bellybuttons; everyone’s got one and they are all a bit different. Individual and group ethics keep society from degenerating into anarchy, but they are subjective, born in the minds of men.
Morality, on the other hand, is objective. It’s a standard that is independent of humans, having originated with God. The slogan on our money isn’t in ethics we trust, but in God. It’s not one nation with justice and ethics for all. It’s one nation under God. But liberals don’t need morals, as long as they have ethics to hide behind. Therefore, they don’t understand people who rely on faith.
The Far Left convinces itself that it’s okay to murder unborn children. They say it’s all about the right to choose, even though the child gets no choice. The truth is; it’s really about the right to kill, a right that society gives to mothers and their doctors, but not to serial killers in prison. Is that fair?
Liberal ethics say you can kill an unborn kid that can’t yet survive outside the womb. Dependency on another life for survival seems to justify killing. Applying this same logic should allow us to pull the plug on quadraplegics, coma patients, those using dialysis machines, those mangled in car wrecks that need doctors to survive, the list goes on.
If we try to say that the unborn aren’t human enough to have rights because they lack development, then that logically opens the door to eugenic killing on the basis of I.Q., color blindness, birth defects, and other supposed failings.
There are many areas where liberal ethics masquerade as virtue, and fail miserably. Ethics have many sins to answer for, giving special privileges to the few at a cost to the many. For example, morality defines marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman. Ethics want to trample this underfoot, claiming discrimination. Even if this were true , not all discrimination is wrong. To say apples are apples and not oranges is a statement of fact, not prejudice. Discrimination gets a bad rap it doesn’t always deserve. Sometimes, it’s just common sense, based on an understanding of what is. But ethics still insist on redefining reality until anything goes.
Morality and ethics often disagree. When there's a conflict, ethics need to give way to morality, not the other way around. This is the core of what the Far Left just doesn’t get. They never will. It’s easier to just call people of faith mind-numbed zombies and label them stupid. Apparently, ethics is fine with this.
My neice is alive because her mother, my sister, wouldn't abort because of an unwanted pregnancy. The Dr. offered to 'take care of it for her'. She refused. A neice of my husband's is alive because her mother refused to abort, even when they told her the baby had no backbone in the womb. She is perfectly healthy and growing up fine today. We are not God. I am glad we are not.
