For any recent visitors of Atlantic City, you might know better than anyone about the problems Bally’s and Caesar’s hotels are having with finances. The Atlantic City Hilton Resort is also among those that are having financial troubles, which could be why they refused to turn down bed sheets each day with clean sheets. For heavens’ sake, they need to preserve energy as much as possible! According to recent reports circulating New Jersey, the Hilton is in debt over 80 million dollars and counting. They weren’t able to pay back a loan recently taken out to cover harsh economic times, but they’re not the only hotel having problems.
According to employees and their television campaign, Bally’s and Caesar’s hotels are losing business due to their own employees, most of whom have gone on strike. Seeing the commercial on television was quite shocking, but also very relevant to the times. Companies are doing whatever they have to in order to remain afloat, including cutting health care benefits for most, if not all, of their employees. Strikers and protesters of their “policies” flooded the streets on Thursday as my beau and I walked down Pacific Avenue. Apparently, the very employees of the hotels are urging visitors of Atlantic City to boycott the hotels, just as they have. Even the strongly worded commercials could be found offensive to major players in the Casino Resorts. “So Don’t Go,” the commercial would reiterate each of the 20 times it came on during the day. Though a serious concern, I’m not sure it would keep visitors away from the attractive hotels.
