Jesus taught His disciples how to be fruitful so that their joy might be full (John 15:11). In essence, practical Christianity is demonstrated and proven by being fruitful. There is a great joy in gaining the results God desires.

We have great potential bestowed on us by God for fruitful living (Christianity). In other to attain this fruitfulness, we need to identify and appraise the following facts (truth)…

1.  Jesus is the Source of Fruitfulness (V.1)

a.       Jesus is the true vine. He is the embodiment of the vine.

b.       Believers are the branches; we have one root in Christ. (Eph. 3:9)

c.       If we stay connected to Him (hidden in Christ), we naturally bear fruits. (Gal. 2:20)

2.  God tends His Vineyard (v. 1)

a.       Our Heavenly Father is the Vinedresser. (The Owner of the Vineyard)

b.       He owns us- We did not chose Him, He chose us (v.16)

c.       He cares for us – In His wisdom, He delightfully watches over us (Songs 2:4).

3.  Pruning for Fruitfulness (v.2)

a.       God removes anything that hinders our usefulness. His word removes our infirmities, filthiness and corruption. (Titus 2:14; 2 Cor.7:1; James 1:21)

b.       He trims our weaknesses through His grace - (2 Cor.12:9)

4.  Divine Partnership (v.4)

     a. Our job is not to artificially push out fruit, but to stay connected to the vine through faith

         (2 Tim.1:13)

     b. Spiritual fruitfulness can only be possible by the mutual relationship between Christ and His  

         disciples.

5.  Promises for Fruitfulness (v.7)

     If we let His word abide in us, He promise He will do what we ask (2 Peter 1:4)

6.  Purpose of pursuing Fruitfulness (v.8)

    God created us to glorify Him by bearing much fruit. This is the evidence that we are His disciples…

a.       In Suffering (1 Pet.4:16)

b.       In our utterances (Rom.15:6)

c.       In witnessing (Mat.28:18-20)

d.       In Love, in spirit, in faith, in purity (1 Tim.4:12)

7.  Obedience (v.10)

Jesus gives only one condition to all these;

a.       We must obey God.

b.       We are to remain in Him.

c.       We are to receive from Him, and

d.       We are to reproduce for Him.         

CONCLUSION

As Christians, our goal is not only to bear fruit, but to help others to do same. We must be more than faithful, we must be fruitful – that is what practical Christianity is all about.
