In today's society, it's very seldom that you find a couple that's exercising the traditional morals of the past, of being in a monogamous relationship. While most are being deceived into an illusion by their mate, that they're the only one and it's no one else. Others are exposed to the fact that they're not the only one, but still decides to settle for being the "other man/woman." What are a few assumptions one could gather up, to explain why a person is willing to settle for being the go to person in the relationship?
One reason is: "Instant Gratification."
The third party of the relationship could care less about what the husband or wife does at home with their companion. All he/she is looking for is love, affection and even sex when you're with him/her for that moment. Commitment doesn't even begin to play a factor to the third party. The first thought that comes to mind is, "If you love your wife/husband so much.. why are you here with me..."
Reason Two Is: "Being Vulnerable."
After ending a relationship with someone that you honestly loved, this can leave you in a vulnerable state of mind at that particular moment. Depending on the person, some people will instantly jump into another relationship, trying to urgently fill that void in their heart. Doing this can very well come back to haunt you, because you didn't allow yourself enough time to get to know this person better. Ultimately, leading you to find out the hard way, that you're the other man/woman, because this person had someone all along.
Reason Three Is: "Self-Esteem Issues"
A lot of times, when a person was with someone that constantly found ways to bring their self-esteem down, they will start to believe themselves, that no one else will want them. If they're in a relationship with someone and found out that this person is involved already and have been lying, they would still stick around for awhile, because they feel as though they can't receive any thing better than what's before them.
It's several other reasons why a person accepts the role of being the other man/woman. Does any of the above sound familiar to you?
