TRY, it's a word many of us use frequently, little realizing the our subconscious minds are blocking our good intentions.

TRY, AND THE FORCE WILL BE AGAINST YOU

Try: It’s a three-letter word that carries major consequencies. Yet it’s on the tongue of many people. For instance: why don’t you try to be on time, try and mend your relationship, try and lose weight, try and write a book. The use of the word try goes on endlessly with few if anyone realizing the negative impact the word has on their lives.

The problem or condition rests with the subconscious mind. For instance, if I say “Try not to think of an elephant,” what do you think about? Yes, as much as you try, you cannot fail to think about an elephant.

It’s the same with some kindly therapist or doctor telling you “Try to relax.” It’s impossible. However, remove the word “try” and suggest “Imagine you are relaxing,” and if you do imagine it – bingo! --  you will relax.

Here are some more sentences using the word “try.”  For instance if you try to be angry, or try to be afraid, you will find the subconscious creates a complete block. The same goes if you want to try and fall in love.

Hypnotists have an interesting little trick that, if done properly, will demonstrate the power of try. Sit quietly, hands together, with fingers interlocking. Now imagine, just imagine that your hands are made of steel, the strongest steel in the world. Your hands are a  block of powerful  superhuman steel. When you feel your hands are strong like steel, say to yourself: “At the count of three I will try – try - to pull my hands apart. One – two – three. I am trying to pull my hands apart.” If you have done the imagery properly and used the word “try” you will find it impossible to pull your hands apart. Tell yourself “I relax,” and you will find your hands come apart instantly.

The subconscious mind has some strange processes. For instance if you say: “I am trying to lose weight,” or “I am trying to quit smoking,” chances are you will do neither.

Why? Because the subconscious mind does not recognize the future. The subconscious mind which is the home of the False Self, the negative ego, finds its security in your memories. It lives and thrives on memories, whether they are recent, or originate in your childhood. In fact you will find that whenever the False Self raises one of its multiplicity of faces such as anger, revenge, envy, bitterness, they are all based on memories that occurred in your  past. If you find this difficult to believe, mentally watch your ego reacting the next time you get into an argument with a friend or loved one. You will find it’s like the rerun of an old movie rewritten to address the current situation.

To give the subconscious mind some credit, while it fails to recognize the future, it does recognize the present, the Here and Now. For instance if you bring the weight loss and smoking cessation mentioned above into the present tense, the Here and Now, it suddenly takes notice. For instance: “I am losing weight” or “I am a non-smoker” repeated frequently enough will take root as suggestions in the subconscious, and whatever takes root there will manifest itself in your physical life.  Just make sure you eliminate any reference to the word try.

There is a much deeper connotation in the workings of the subconscious and the False Self. It comes in the word “change.” Politicians love the word, little realizing it sparks fear and anxiety in the minds of many people. The human ego sees the word “change” like it does “try”: They both refer to the future. Unless people can see future changes in their lives, society and government as events that are aligned with past memories, they will be inclined to protest, even revolt. Many humans find security in their memories, regardless of how objectionable their False Self can be to themselves and others. This is why all change must be in alignment with old memories. A politician will promise “We will improve wages, job security, health benefits,” which is acceptable, but if the politician proclaims: “We will create a new work place, a new labor system, restructure your benefits, in fact our goal is Utopia.” The False Self, the negative ego of the listener cannot stretch into the future, and it suddenly becomes fearful, afraid, and starts blocking and creating panic. Politicians, or any one else in a position of power, seeking to introduce change, must watch this delicate line in the subconscious mind.

The subconscious mind, the False Self of each person has strict limitations regarding such topics as  thinking, understanding, living, working, society, relationships and beliefs about God, the Creator. These limitations can block and undermine a dedicated person’s desire to change, to escape from a mechanical, conditioned mind and life.

The secret is to watch the working process of the the false self, the ego of subconscious mind, and do it without judgment , comment, opinion. This may appear difficult at first because we are encouraged  to be opinionated by our environment.

When you watch the thought processes of the subconscious mind in what is called Impartial Self Observation, an interesting phenomena occurs. The faces of the negative ego which include limitations, fears, anxieties, plus many other dark emotions, start to dissipate. They start to fade and lose their power, and eventually, they will no longer exist. And you are free.

How to do this is explained in my book “Cracking the Glass Darkly.” Now, the real secret is resist saying: “I will try and read it.” That, my friend, puts you back to where we started.
