Angry Planet full of Mayhem

There’s not much good news today following Japan’s devastating earthquake, flooding and tsunami other than finding of more live survivors. The number of dead and missing from the earthquake and tsunami has passed 3,000. What will tomorrow bring for these affluent, talented and hard working people? Right now the moment of no return has passed, and just like their infamous fictional monster, Godzilla, the fire breathing nuclear reactors are waging war against their people and their beautiful country.   

In an effort to conserve electricity and avoid a nationwide power outage, around 10 million households will be without electricity for up to 4-hours from time to time. The rolling blackouts are staggered through five areas comprising the greater Tokyo. Like Ralph Waldo Emerson adviced so long ago, that humans must now “adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience.”

Who or what is this chaos, disorder, confusion, turmoil, pandemonium and anarchy that has taken over the world? Who do we blame? Is it really the end of the world like some of us fear?   It seems like Mayhem, Mother Nature and Greed has collectively become the Anti-Christ many of us have been anticipating and fearing for so long now.

There is only one thing that can save us. We’ve got to find a way to be kind to each other and the planet. The infamous De lai Lama advices us, “This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.”

I am not a teacher or doctor. I am an observer. I am just an ordinary woman living in an extraordinary imperfect word. I am always trying to find a balance between joy and sadness in my life just like everybody else.  Martin Luther King once said, “Not everyone can be famous. But everyone can be great.”  I, myself, have learned with good intentions and some hard work, all of us can be great by staying true to our values, integrity and our own Creator.

It is the suffering fools of us who try to fix what is broken and/or heal what is hurting when we are sleeping. I imagine there are millions of sleeping heads pouring salt into old wounds not yet healed especially in Japan. Humans are created to learn from their mistakes. What we learn this time around about Nuclear Reactors may someday save the world.

This is what I have to believe. Everything happens for a reason and none of us can deny we learn from what we experience. Reverend Barbara King says, “Remember that there is another dimension to you that is greater than your humanness: there’s that Spirit of the living God which speaks to your soul, speaks to your heart all the time, giving you guidance and direction. . . so that when the time comes to act, you’ll know what to do, when to do it, and how to do it.”
