If you are a freelance writer, then being able to write effective sales letters can earn you a ton of money. Most writers can still earn a pretty good living by writing articles, white papers, and blog posts. But if you want to earn well into six figures, and likely seven, then being able to write sales copy is a must.
But how do you get better at this? The same way you get better at anything else, practice! Just like you can get better at shooting free throws by shooting free throws, you can get better at writing sales letters by writing sales letters. If you can demonstrate that you can increase conversions on a website, you'll make a ton of cash.
What are conversions? These are the percent of people who read a letter who end up taking the suggested course of action. Depending on the action, and what's required by the reader, it can be easy to difficult to covert.
For example, getting somebody to click a link at the bottom an article to learn more is not so difficult. Getting somebody to click a link to sign up for an email list is a little more difficult. Getting somebody to click the "buy" button at the bottom of a sales letter is the Holy Grail. If you can do this, you'll be able to print your own money.
How do you get better at this? Start small. Take a topic you know something about. Find a book on that topic on Amazon. Sign up for Amazon's affiliate program. Write a blog post on your blog talking about how awesome that book is. Recommend that people buy it through your link.
Once that is set up, you've got your sales letter. Now you've got to drive traffic there. How you do that is up to you, but writing articles like this one, on directories like this one, is a great place start. It will further enhance your ability to write persuasively.
Write articles about your subject. At the end of your article, suggest people visit your blog to find out more information. They come to your blog, read your informative and persuasive letter, and hopefully buy the book.
Keep in mind you aren't trying to make money. Just improve your skills. You'll only get about ten or twenty cents per book, so unless you plan on selling a thousand books a day, you won't make a living doing this.
But once you get good at this, you can try selling more expensive things. Once you get comfortable with that, you can start charging thousands of dollars per sales letter.
