Benghazi Attack v. Iraq War
The Republicans in Congress are making a lot of noise over the terrorist attack on our embassy in Benghazi that happened last September. Their outrage is justified to the extent we must hold people accountable for ineptitude, lying, or cover ups. There is no evidence, however, that any of those acts were committed, but there is little doubt that the Obama administration did not want to be seen as having committed any of those charges in the weeks before a Presidential election.
In order to place the Benghazi attack in its proper context, it is also fair to inquire about other events involving outrageous ineptitude, lying, or cover ups that also cost human lives, and American lives in particular, that are not being discussed as a subject for wider investigation. Especially, at issue are those events that have not resulted in an accounting to the American people. In that regard the Iraq war jumps up like a sore thumb. Where were the Republicans when an entire set of stories and suspicions were fabricated and laid before the country in justification of that war? Re: Stories of weapons of mass destruction that did not exist, of nuclear weapons that never were, and of mushroom clouds over America that could never have been? Silence before the war is one thing, but silence after many high-ranking members of the Bush Administration have come forward with numerous revelations that put the highest members of the Bush Administration clearly at the center of a web of lies and deceit.
Second, there is the issue of proportionality. All deaths are tragic. But the death toll, number of casualties, and the cost to taxpayers for the Iraq war are all so vastly larger than Benghazi attack they argue against the sincerity of the Republican inquiry.
The Republicans say there is nothing political in their inquiries. As proof, they say the November 2012 elections are over. The Democrats say it is all political and it is designed to discredit Hillary Clinton, the Secretary of State at the time, and the leading candidate for the Democratic nomination for President for 2016.

President Obama said, “the US is able to absorb and other 9/11.” That did not mean that he was inviting one, what it meant was that terrorism is largely unpreventable in the nation's tolerance for harm is quite great. Only another Pearl Harbor should force us into war, not a bombing or attack on an embassy or consulate. It is remarkable, given the number of terrorists out there, that we have had more incidents or incidents with greater destruction.
Your comparison clearly shows the relative impact of the Benghazi incident with the Iraqi War, where lies and coverups were used to gain political favor.
