Take away the motive from notoriety seekers.
No Publicity for Armed Killers of Innocent People
It may take 500 different solutions working in combination to win the fight against armed murderers who are hell bent on killing our children and other innocent people. And it will surely take a lot of thinking “outside the box” to defeat them. A few creative thinkers have asked “How do you get inside the head of a crazy son-of-a-bitch full of anger, revenge, insecurity, immaturity, mental illness, a desire for notoriety and myriad other factors, including easy access to weapons?” In Colorado they've come up with one answer and a potential solution that is worth trying.
Colorado has had more than its share of these armed lunatics. One thing that many of these killers may be looking for, some have reasoned, is 15 minutes of fame, or infamy, in print and on television. It seems plausible. Why else would someone open fire on the patrons in a movie theatre that he does not know, and has no feelings about? Such an act instantly brings in first responders, television cameras, and reporters, while millions of citizens wait for news account of who did it, with accompanying pictures, questions, and reports. Continuing coverage of their faces in prison cells, trials, and more could be the very thing that feeds their sick minds.
But what effect might it have on other “monkey see, monkey do” killers if the actual killers' names never got into print, or their faces were never shown on television, or they never received any publicity at all? Maybe we should make those who do not kill themselves wear a sack over their heads when outside their cells. Forbid cameras or microphones in their presence. Maybe that silence, that anonymity, would discourage others? Take away their motive and we might take away their desire to commit the crime in the first place. It's worth a try.
It might be worthwhile to show their faces at the end of a hangman's rope only after the trap door has been sprung. The idea of a certain death without publicity, without notoriety or celebrity, is one piece in the puzzle of how to win this fight.

In Britain the family courts operated in total secrecy, hidden from public scrutiny, which unfortunately protected government officials from some serious errors and injustices in their decision making to the extent that now, the scandalous system of anonymity is being reversed. When will society give more consideration and publicity to the victims of these depraved monsters in our midst.
The more communication opens up society, the more ways that information will leak out and fools will pay an outrageous sum for some artifact associated with a killer like they were some kind of star. That's why brutal killers like Billy the Kid and Bonnie and Clyde are legends.
