As things are shaping up (or down), it appears that Donald Trump will have committed enough “high crimes and misdemeanors” after his first week in office to justify bringing impeachment charges against him. But why wait? This guy is like a bull in a china shop. He could completely wreck the country and the world while causing more damage than a couple hundred H-bombs could bring us. He’s not a dark cloud waiting to happen; he’s like 200 potential mushroom clouds streaking in from various parts of the world with 200 of our densest population centers locked into their internal guidance systems. We need to stop him before he summons in Armageddon raised to the hundredth power.

Who is going to challenge his line-up of thugs and miscreants after he is finished sorting through the muck to fill all his top level positions? Individually and collectively those now under consideration are enough to give any sensible person permanent gastro-esophageal reflux sickness. Let us recall (while we can) the immortal words of Lord John Dalberg Acton expressed so eloquently in a letter to Bishop Mandell Creighton in 1887: "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

No election has shown so glaringly and so undeniably the imperfections of the electoral college in identifying the will of the people as they did in our most recent election. Hillary Clinton’s consolation prize will be a 2 million vote lead that was dismissed as irrelevant. That part of the Constitution that allows for such a miscarriage of justice needs to be repealed and replaced by an honest and straightforward rendering and counting of the vote. But that will require a Constitutional change that will take a very long time to bring about.

We also need a mental fitness test—not only for political candidates, but also for voters. Those who are too confused to think and to act within rational bounds should not be allowed to become candidates for public office, or to vote in public elections, or to own or possess deadly weapons. Such a screening test should easily be within the skills of specialists in abnormal psychology to construct and to validate. At some point (like now) the rational need to protect themselves from the irrational. Just think of the potential savings in national treasure.

Massive propaganda via all media needs to be curtailed, and spending limits imposed. Lies, deception, false ideologies, and blatant assertions are insulting to our collective sensibilities. At a very early age we need to identify those who practice them, and those who are too gullible and too easily persuaded to absorb them and act against their own and the public interest. We all need to be taught early about how to think clearly, how to reason objectively, and how to reject all the false arguments and the snake oil sales people whoever they are and wherever they exist. Those outcomes need to be the ultimate objective of education. It needs to be the number one objective of every teacher and of every institution beginning in kindergarten and continuing through a baccalaureate degree. Yes, there is more to education than to merely learn how to memorize. Everyone needs to learn how to analyze, to synthesize, and to evaluate issues and candidates as clearly and as honestly as their abilities will permit.

For now the President could sign an executive order that forbids any elected official from seeking political and/or economic advantages for himself, or his family, or his friends before or during his tenure in office. The more egregious the violation, the easier should be the removal of those persons from office which they demonstrate they hold in contempt.

Those are my truncated views about how to prevent those incoming missiles and other devices that can rain down hell from the skies from appearing on the horizon. What are yours?
