One More Time…
The Presidential election is corrupted by rigging, of that there can be little doubt. It began in 1787 with the creation of the Electoral College that biased the election in favor of land and slave ownership. It continues today with rampant dishonesty in television ads, with tinkering by the FBI director, by unknown wealthy contributors, and perhaps by hacking and meddling by the Kremlin and its KGB operatives.
This much we know for sure about meddling. The Princeton Election Consortium compiled 175 or so state polls in a moving average to track the probable outcome. The projected results showed a dramatic shift away from Clinton and toward Trump in the last 10 days before the election. The only known event of significance that occurred concurrent with that shift were the remarks made by FBI Director, James Comey, a Republican. But set that issue aside for now. An investigation into the results in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania is warranted based on the razor-thin margins in those states. The total margins in those three states represent about 0.1 percent of the vote cast. But let’s go back in time to when it all began.
It’s amazing. Just 227 years ago James Madison, himself a slave owner, concocted a scheme to keep political power in the hands of wealthy land and slave owners that any inquiring mind could pierce. As a reminder, he erected an “electoral college” to replace the will of the people when electing a president. It wasn’t that difficult. Most of his associates we refer to today as our “founding fathers” were also wealthy land and slave owners. He said (in effect) “Let’s give those states with slaves a boost to their votes by declaring that non-citizen and non-voting slaves are 3/5 as important as whites, and thereby multiply the white vote in those states by the percentage of slaves times 60 percent (3/5). Well, Virginia, alone (Madison’s state) had a population that was 40 percent slave. Multiply that by 0.6 and you have a boost to Virginia’s white influence that jumped a whopping 24 percent! Holy canon balls! How deceptive and unfounder-like was that? Add to that manipulation “winner take all,” a concept that affronts logic and fair play, and you have what is known in kindergarten circles as a “rigged election.”
It wasn’t enough that sparsely populated states already had a huge advantage over their neighbors with 2 senators each, the same number as states with 10 or 20 times their population. No. They wanted more. He and his supporters came up this tilted math in the form of the Electoral College and—ouila!—they put it in the Constitution. Those who love this manipulation merely assert “It’s the law,” as if it came from Heaven.
Fast forward to 1865. Following the Civil War, three-fourths of the states adopted the 13th Amendment to the Constitution that outlawed slavery. All the former slaves were now free to vote. Well, not quite. No one bothered to strike down the Electoral College and its rigged math. And so rigged elections continued every four years in spite of the fact it was now based on the illegal ownership of slaves.
Fast forward to 1962. The Supreme Court ruled (Baker v. Carr, 369 U.S. 186) that a fair election system was based on this irrefutable concept: “One person, one vote.” That is quite compelling. How can that decision mean anything other than the population vote must prevail? It is impossible to have an antiquated system that rigs the outcome in favor of states with smaller populations, and still pretend to have the “one person, one vote” premise prevail. Go figure.
The 2016 Election. Hillary Clinton won the vote of the people by 2.5 million votes over Donald Trump. Under "winner take all,” Trump (apparently) won Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania by less than 100,000 votes total. But we did not hold 50 different elections. We held only one. Only by rigging can 100,000 votes in three states beat 2.5 million votes across all 50 states.
On inspection. Wyoming with a 500,000 population gets 3 electoral votes. California with 40 million population gets 55 votes. Notice that 55 is just 18 times 3. But 40 million is 80 times 500,000. There is the problem, the remnant of a biased system based on slavery held over from 1787 and into 2016.
The Chatter.
Objection: “Get over it. Trump won fair and square. Move on.”
--Response: To all these commentators I say “Quit eating, smoking or otherwise consuming horse manure in your daily diet. Logic, the law, and 3rd grade arithmetic are all against you.
Objection: “If we used the popular vote, states like California and New York would dominate the presidential elections.”
--Response. Not true . Under “one person, one vote” rule every vote cast would have an equal effect on the outcome. You could (in theory) rearrange the population and the vote in any way you can think of, and the election result would remain the same. Try it with match sticks, or by using a random number generator (constrained only by the total vote), and the result would remain exactly the same every time. This argument falls like a lead balloon.
Objection: “But I can’t stand Hillary Clinton. She’s crooked.”
--Response. “You apparently did not notice how quickly even Trump stopped using that cute little assertion.”

Unfortunately after the election, it has been learned that a single man, enlisting 25 or so other writers, had them write fake news stories that were placed on social media. These stories did not have any real truth, but they were cleverly written to include real events so that they had the appearance of truth. Since most of the stories were appealing to those who were fed up and looking for information to validate their thinking that there was some conspiracy or other unseen but devious things going on, immediately were attracted and passed the stories on. Many became viral among middle American social media lovers.
Two things resulted from the stories: for those looking for an excuse, Hillary Clinton was thoroughly painted as a crook without a shred of evidence of ill doing. And, the news media, reporting more on (moron) Donald Trump because of his campaign antics, and reporting everything with verified sources, video and being live on the scene, came to be labeled as "liberal" and untrustworthy. Because the fake news said so. The moon landing was filmed in Arizona. Nessie lives in Loch Ness. And, Bigfoot is roaming the United States because TV shows are running around with cameras looking for him everywhere.
