Reader Beware: There is no classification in the AD taxonomy that accommodates a composition that is part narrative, part soliloquy, part allegory, and mostly an introspective rant. This rendering is closer to any one of those terms than it is to that unimaginative noun referred to among the brethren with reverence as an article.

Sour Grapes and the Big Bang

Ignorance of other writers' work keeps me from discouragement and I am less well-read than the average bus driver. –Garrison Keillor

I have an affinity with Garrison Keillor’s admission. Most of my reading comes from snippets of books, articles, and other sources that fall within my view via television or onto my lap for free at medical offices. A short attention span and a page-to-eye-to-brain dysfunction have created a chronic focus issue that accounts for most of my literary shortcomings. Even as a child I paid attention in class only when I wasn’t daydreaming or fanaticizing, and I relied on a weak but satisfactory memory to get me through the various grade levels. Homework, recitation and other ungodly ways of filling my head with topics of ancillary and specious value were not part of my early habits. Suffice to say I am the antithesis of what the education profession believes underscores scholarship or coherency.

And that brings me to the two words that are central to my confabulations today; namely, they are “confused” and “hot-heated.”

A quick trip to the dictionary discloses what I had suspected: These two words mean “mentally and/or physically disoriented” and a “predisposition to become enraged and to fly off at the handle.” In most discussions these two terms are self-evident as to their undesirability when it comes to seeking out prospective friends, colleagues, or sex partners. They could be apropos when looking for characteristics in lions, and tigers, and bears to keep on your premises to hold unwanted others at bay.

I will grant that nearly the entire world thinks in ways that differ from mine—and we are all probably the better for it. I work in fits and spurts; I buy on impulse; and I have been known to walk away from conversations in order to lay down and take a nap. About the only time that I spend hours in deep concentration is when the subject at hand has no discernible relevancy to any person, place, or thing. That’s when I’m in my element. But the harm done is generally limited to me, to my mental and physical well-being, and pretty much to the exclusion of all others and their concerns. Although I often seem to be confused, I rarely if ever combine my confusion while assuming a state of hot-headedness. To do so would surely disqualify me in the minds of others as their first choice to pilot an airplane in which there were passengers; they would most likely not want me as a pharmacist filling their prescriptions; and most assuredly they would not want to hand me direct and exclusive access to the nuclear codes that could end the human race as we know it.

And so I must now confront the issue of my concern directly: By what stretch of logic, of coherency, of concern for self and for others; and when following the progression of knowledge, understanding, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation is it possible for an otherwise sane segment of our population to act so deliberately and so perfunctorily in handing the nuclear codes to one of the few persons on this planet who so positively and so overwhelmingly is both confused and a hot head?

Where are the psychiatrists, the neuropsychologists, the engineers, the mathematicians, the weapons systems experts; the elementary school teachers; the theologians; the self-directed philosophers--and the scholarly bus drivers when we need them most? When did the wisdom of this eternal imperative lose its relevancy—“Be careful of what you ask for?”

It is too painful and too unimaginative for me to ponder or to absorb how three million voters short of a majority could place a check mark next to the name of someone who is hell bent on killing us all. What explains such behavior? In whatever way you may try to answer that question, please spare me the comment that is so shallow it flies away without need of wings--“that’s just sour grapes.”

That is not sour grapes. It is several billion tons of TNT wrapped up in warheads criss-crossing oceans and killing animal and vegetable life in global blasts of fireballs the likes of which hell hath no equal. It is extinction in milliseconds. It is stupidity gone berserk. It is the most insanely outrageous act of self annihilation that can be concocted in a single act that an amoeba would never think to commit. It is a violation of every orderly or disorderly act of blasphemy against the universe. It is a summoning of the Day of Judgment; it is a pardon for Hitler and all the tyrants of history; it is the final reckoning when that second-place group collectively looked at themselves in the mirror of life and said “I’m expendable.”

Somewhere out there beyond our solar system is a plaque attached to the space craft Pioneer 10 that proclaims our good intentions to the universe. We sent it on its journey in 1972. It is our envoy for peace, love, understanding, and good will. Was Pioneer really a messenger for all the thinking, and the praying, and the building, and the doing and the posturing that occurred on Earth since the Big Bang; or was it all just a prelude to an act of planetary suicide that some want to shrug off with the callously cold comment known as sour grapes? Inquiring minds want to know, and this time, so do I.

Edward,

I must say that I enjoy those who speak their mind without worry of offending others, as it is a trait that I, myself, exhibit ...

All our country is concerned about the possibilities of what new leadership in the White House may portend for the future of America--and the world ...

Briefly, I could not stomach Hillary and I did not trust Trump. We got a new President based upon an electoral process that has value and merit, but this time around it has left a sour taste in our mouths--sour grapes, as you point out so well ...

As for hotheads, not all such people make rash decisions ... But, many do ... My concern would be that of Trump getting into a pissing contest with Putin (or another world leader) and finding out that his mouth has put him in a position, before the world, to where he cannot back down ...

The Russian people are good, tough, persevering, people who have a propensity for being ruled by overbearing Czars, Dictators, and Tyrants ruling beneath the guise of democratic process ... In our arrogance, we Americans fail to take note that Russia is not, and never has been, a push over ... Putin is man not to be underestimated in representing the best interests of his nation as a world class power ... We Americans have been duped into believing that we freely elect our leaders (blind to the reality that our freedom of choice in choosing is more than limited in being forced to choose the better of crooked, lying-ass, candidates), and now we, too, are ruled by a Tyrant parading around as the Pied Piper Savior of America ... Two world powers ruled by two Tyrants and neither peoples truly free for all practical purposes ... We do not need a pissing contest between these two that may readily evolve into a button pushing contest ... At the same time, we do not need appeasing leadership in the White House, as I believe Hillary would have represented ... Putin correctly views appeasement for what it is: Weakness ... At the same time, I share your concern over the future of our nation and the world with two such men at the helm of nuclear arsenals ... It is my personal assessment that, in the heat of any pissing contest, Putin is the tougher and more determined man, while Trump simply talks the loudest as the narcissistic egoist he is ... We shall see ... Let us hope that we do not see bright, retina searing, flashes of apocalyptic light ...

Suffice it to say, in gleaning your well expressed thoughts and concerns, that I believe that there are powers pulling the puppet strings of leadership and direction for our nation from a hidden and comfortable position of rule as "The Power Behind The Throne" ... War is a powerful tool that readily brings about change and adjustments in population control, demographics, and natural resource acquisition and redistribution ... Academic Scholars direct pointy fingers at Organized Religion Scholars in stating "You don't have facts," while Organized Religion retaliates with statements of, "You don't have faith." ... No one seems to take note that both sides predominantly advocate, support, and promote the concept of a coming One World Government (Prototype: United Nations?) which will likely be ruled by a One World Leader ... Clearly, then, there are men in the world who don't give a tinkers damn for religion or science, but do have an agenda for bringing about the dissolution of national sovereignty, borders, and boundaries ... I, for one, tend to think that it is such people (hidden, sight unseen) who are, in actuality, pulling the puppet strings of leadership in our own White House (in fact have been doing so for quite some time, regardless of Party affiliations) and in the centers of governments of other prominent player nations around the world ... Another World War will handily serve to promote the goal of forcing all peoples to accept and embrace the establishment of World Government ... If they disarms us all, we shall face an offer we simply will find ourselves unable to refuse ... At the risk of offending some, who may read this review of your excellent article, I do not support any agenda for One World Government, religious or otherwise ...

Thanks for sharing your heart ...

I think Pioneer was a result of the Age of Aquarius, when it was all love not war. Unfortunately, we seem to have moved away from that state of mind to one belonging to the Age of Mars or some such. I wonder, what will the residents of the International Space Station do when we blow ourselves up?

Perhaps the 'end-of-the-worlders' are right and reducing the Earth to crawling things is the only way to resolve our rapacious nature - and the Pioneer 10 plaque is just another (more high-minded than most) come-on to the poor sucker who finds it. Or maybe deep space is the only safe place to put our tombstone. Happy New Year! Courage!

An eloquent "smack down" of a dis-ease far to many people used as a voting criteria. I'm reminded of an outrageous campaign promise that has many men tense and in doubt. "I'll get your jobs back." Kentucky. Miners. Black lung disease. The threatened repeal of Obama Care. These unemployed miners are now caught between a rock and hard spot, the Donald, for many, they're dead without affordable insurance. Preexisting conditions just took on a massive bit of anxiety for many people. Thanks for posting this illuminating piece of civilized disagreement.

Besides being confused and hot-headed, you have the endearing trait of being able to lie your ass off and forget you said stupid things just hours before. But you are a darling of the 1% who are hell-bent on increasing their profit margins, humanity be damned. Be careful! The idiots that voted for you will be furious if you cut taxes so much that the highway collapses beneath them. Good luck. Now you know.

Democratic Dilemmas and Divine Inspiration (A Kindle Short) by Aberjhani

Democratic Dilemmas and Divine Inspiration examines the significance or relevance of the idea that the U.S. Constitution was, as many believe, divinely inspired. How much did that belief matter to founders of the nation and how much does it matter no
