I don’t like politics. It neither tickles my fancy, nor doe it arouse my intellectual curiosity. It has been beaten and dumbed-down by ideologues into morsels of mediocrity. But those morsels can be scary in the hands of someone without a soul such as Donald Trump. Even Liz Cheney’s voting record was with the Trump agenda 92 percent of the time. So why am I praising her? She doesn’t like the Donald. And now she is out to destroy him as he tried to do to her. I guess he never heard the expression “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” He is not her equal on the playing fields of truth, honesty, or how and where to aim a remark. In a verbal exchange, I believe she can emasculate him.

I have no special feelings for the Cheney family. Dick Cheney was loyal to his cause, but his cause was not for the good of the US. He was quick to judge others, while he squirmed his way into favor among his party’s chieftains. He was a draft-dodger who had the temerity to accept the position of Secretary of Defense. He parlayed his political connections into cash as the CEO of Halliburton, walking away after just 2 years with $41 million in traveling money. The only thing I can recall about his wife was that she shrieked like an angry elephant when presidential candidate John Kerry referred to one of the Cheney family members as a lesbian without showing a lot of love for the word or the daughter.

Liz seems to have had an epiphany. She no longer has faith in the Republican party. She sees it as a rag-tag band of the misbegotten who are well on their way to taking us down the road to Hades. In spite of her voting record, she is a “duty, honor, country” kind of person. She refuses to sell her soul to the likes of Trump. She won me to her cause when she said this to all Republicans in Congress: "Tonight, I say this to my Republican colleagues who are defending the indefensible: There will come a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonor will remain." Her words seem to have echoed down the hallways, and across the nation with a lot of integrity. She was on a mission, and she was an unstoppable force. In her concession speech last night she reaffirmed her dislike for Trump and his brand of loyalty: “I will do everything I can to make sure Donald Trump never gets anywhere near the Oval Office.”
