If ever there was something to watch, to listen to, to contemplate, to admire, and to enjoy from here to eternity and back, this is it.  It is a compilation of the thoughts, hopes, dreams, day-dreams, longings, and insights about who we are, why we live and how to seek answers to the most profound questions.  These 55 minutes make all other distillations of life on this planet diminish and sail away into a vastness in search of our bare essence as intelligent beings. 

I am referring to a daring and contemplative summation that will hold you spellbound, stir up your appreciation molecules, and make all of us thankful that someone came along and questioned, and poked, and contemplated who we are, and what our individual and collective consciousness was and is all about.  That would clearly be the man, the personality, and one of the most gracious persons of our times,  Carl Sagan.

Carl had been my mentor from afar ever since I stumbled upon his writings, lectures, wit, wisdom, and humanity.  He was just a few years older than me, but I was nowhere near the kind, caring, and understanding person he was -- as scientist or humanitarian.  He was at or near the top of my list as consistently as anyone I ever knew or read about. 

I felt a very personal loss when he passed on.  And still do.  He died at age 62 from a rare bone marrow disease.  I watched two or three of his last interviews.  They were a sheer joy to absorb, but they were also tinged with sorrow knowing that this remarkable person would soon pass on as one the keenest minds and kindest hearts ever to grace this planet.

Watch and listen to the video.  He had a major role in the voyager spacecraft project.  To this minute and for billions of years to come, it will carry his thoughts to unknown galaxies.  It is a summation of who we are. 

Voyager left our solar system long ago while appropriately carrying the words of our most exemplary scientist, philosopher, and humanitarian.  He called planet Earth the "pale blue dot" -- the only home we have ever known.
