The process of releasing intense emotions through a particular activity or experience, such as Writing or Theatre, which help you to understand those emotions.

Over five years ago my wife of thirty-three years unexpectedly died.

It happened at a time when my writing began taking shape, at a time when our marriage seminars started taking off, a time of excitement about our future; it could not have happened at a worst time.

Answers, directions, meaning were in desperate need.

Yet, through the stream of tears… through constant pain… through loneliness as I had never experienced, somehow, thank God, I rejoined the living.

I cannot tell you when I emerged. All I do know, within that year of my wife’s passing I produced Promises Kept. PK is a moving, energetic and humorously spoken word presentation on CD, a tribute to my wife and inspiration to others.

Feeling good after PK, I wrote a novel entitled 50/50 Split published in ‘06. This compelling love story is about a young couple’s marriage ripped apart by infidelity, when all seems lost; when the only viable solution is divorce… love and hope prevail.

Writing can be challenging, but writing certain portions of 50/50 Split proved to be so hard that I almost gave up. That is because my main character had to endure the guilt, the broken heartedness, and the loneliness that so often accompanies losing a love one. Writing these scenes was like helplessly watching my wife pass away all over again.

However, writing from what I know, my character’s dilemma caused me to face emotions and issues buried deep within me. The Catharsis process helped produce a good story but the true reward is how it helped to free me.

This brings me to my present project, From the Heart of a Man. Now instead of reliving the pain of the pass, I am enjoying life as expressed through my collection of poems and letters about love and romance. I love this word Catharsis!
