THE WRITE SERIES, a new videotape program produced by Forest Rose Productions in conjunction with the Pikes Peak Writers Conference, offers inspiration and encouragement for writers. The first volume, "Getting There from Here: Getting Published," is like having the best part of a writers conference on replay – interviews with professionals in the writing world sharing tidbits of advice.
This introductory video to the how-to series offers some valuable nuggets of information from experienced published writers such as Dr. David Morrel author of First Blood, Emmy-nominated screenwriter Rober Crais, Four time RITA recipient author Jo Beverly, Pulitzer-nominated author Robert Vaughan, and author Sharon Sala. The advice given is excellent, especially for new writers. However, the video could be strengthened with written material, which may be available at a later date.
The quality of the filming isn’t top of the line. The interview segments were often too short. Jumping from one interviewee to another became rather jarring, but I suspect the intention was to produce the feeling of being involved in a conference setting.
If an up-and-coming writer can’t make it to a conference, viewing this video may provide the shoulder slapping encouragement and professional secrets expected from a conference. It’s definitely a morale booster to set writers on the path to being published.
