We as authors are in a new world of getting our books to market. Unfortunately, that is often the hardest part of being an author.

Things have changed. We are many. As authors we have goals that cannot be met as they were twenty years ago. Back when, we could submit our work to a publisher and get rejected and try again or we could give up and go home. Now, it is different. When you write a book, the most likely avenue is the self-publishing arena. With millions of new authors each year and POD services, it is up to us to get the word out. Sure, the POD publisher will help you, but for a pretty good size chunk of change and the chance that you will recover any or all of your money is uncertain. So what's the answer? You will have to make sure you cover every open spot on the Internet and let your book be heard. There are thousands of website catering to you and unless you go out and find them, chances are, you well be just another author among the many who will give your books away, trade them with other authors or put them up for door prizes. (the latter is not a bad idea, it has worked for me) I talked a real estate mogul from Florida to buy a case of my books which I autographed and he used these as drawing prizes, door prizes and gifts.

I have my books here on Author's Den. I won't mention any of the other places, but I also have them on over one-hundred more places. I blog, web, post and sign over and over. If you want your book to get moving, recognized and sold, you will have to be the one who does it.

How true this is, Robert. It's a lot of work trying to promote a book, but I enjoy meeting people on the web from many other countries. I find it easier that facing people and trying to sell books, which I don't do. I don't want my friends to avoid me. Laurel
