Before I retired, and for a little over a decade, I was laid off from six jobs.  I don't consider myself a fatalist...but a realist, and what I see ahead for the United States is pretty bleak, etc. 

I wouldn't want to be a young person, today, for I think the young people are going to have it much tougher than us old folks.  Jobs will be fewer, and the education and skill requirements will be higher and tougher to obtain.  If we're not careful as a People, I see the United States destroying itself from the inside...corruption; greed; selfishness; apathy, etc. 

I see the future as an employer's market, and that will be for a long time, as employer's hold all the cards.  I see the United States, as becoming a society of 'temporary workers,' and people will have to work one, two or three jobs to survive.  The greed in this country has gotten out of hand, as it's almost impossible for a young person to get educated.  If there are, little or no jobs...why get educated?  In the future, I predict, there will be Ph.D's out there sweeping floors, and cleaning construction sites.

I see the retirement age for Social Security rising, and many young people won't even get there.  At the age of 68 in 2013, I might make it, but, it will be worrisome.  One of the biggest problems that American's face, is a worthless Congress.  The Congress is the problem and not the solution, in my view.  Everyone in the Congress, is on the gravy-train, so why would they care about Social Security. 

When I got laid-off from one of my jobs, I worked for a world-wide engineering company, with over 35,000 employees.  That company doesn't exist anymore.  I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico, a city with about 500,000 population, and I've seen some big name employers close down and leave town, or go under.  AOL; General Electric; Motorola; Trend Technologies; Phillips Semi-Conductors; Blue Cross; Siemens and so forth.  Intel is located just over the line in another county, but at one time, Intel had over 7,000 employees.  At the last count, I read that Intel has less than 2,000 employees.  I don't expect Intel to stay here...as I think they will move back to California. 

I think my father's generation, will be the last to get and enjoy their Golden Years...whatever that means.  For the rest of us, maybe we'll get through it all...maybe not.  I hate to be so grim, but, it doesn't look good for young people today.  I wouldn't want to be 30 or 40 years old today. 

I don't think there is anyone in the United States, that can save the United States from itself.  The United States, will implode from the inside, and I think we're all seeing the effects of the beginning of ruin in Europe with Italy and Greece leading the way. 

I've always believed in the Boy Scout's motto;  'Be Prepared'  If Social Security goes under, what are all the old people going to do?  I've always believed in the old saying, "Prepare For the Worst; Hope For the Best.  And, I've done that, by starting a small business of my own on the computer, at the age of 68.  Only time will tell, if I'm successful or not.  The reader can go to the following link and find out more;

Welcome to your Golden Years!  At the age of 60, and in the previous decade, I found myself getting laid from six jobs...and homeless...  standing in a soup line.  I see the future for America as pretty grim...I might make it through Social Security, but for the younger people out there, it looks pretty bleak to me...I would suggest that the younger people do what the Boy Scouts advocate...BE PREPARED...
