But, as time went by, it would get worse...
I think it was in 2011, that I wrote an article entitled, "I'm almost ashamed to call myself a human being." And now, after Virginia Tech; Columbine; Fort Bragg; Colorado; Tucson; Newtown and Boston...I must change the title of that article to, I AM Ashamed to Call Myself a Human Being.
In today's SICK society, a person can't even go to church or to a movie, without the fear of getting shot or getting bombed, etc. And, if all this shooting and bombing is not enough, and then comes some jerk and insane creature, in which I refuse to call a humor being, sends the President of the United States and the Mayor of New York (Bloomberg) a business envelope full of a white powder with ricen.
I predict, that it won't be long that all of us will have to check our mail, to see if there are any threats in it to out very existance. SICK! I am not anti-gun; and I am not pro-gun either. I don't own a gun, and I don't have a plan to buy one anytime soon. But, I think 99% of the American people are decent, hard-working people and non-violent. The 2nd. Amendment allows Americans to defend themselves, and that's why most Americans do.
Guns don't kill people...the de-ranged people kill people. Take a look at these stastistics that I found interesting about guns and killing. I'm not positive about the dates here, but I think all this happened in the mid-1990's. There were 173 people killed in America, and none of them were with guns. Amazing! The Oklahoma City bombings killed 168 people; at the time, the Unabomber was on the loose, and killed 5 people with the use of the mails; the O.J. Simpson murders (2) with a knife; and two grandparents were stabbed to death here where I live by the grandson; NO guns were used in these killings.
At this time, I will share an awful personal story with the reader, and it involves my own parents. My father was 70 years old and my mother was 66 years old when they divorced after 48 years of marriage. (if you want to call it that) My mother told me on two occasious, that if something went wrong with the divorce process, that she would poison my father...and, that she was NOT going to live with this man another minute. My mother told me that she would rather spend the rest of her life in prison, than to live with this man another minute.
When we were at the divorce hearing with Judge Kass, I asked the Judge for a private meeting in her office, and I told her what my mother had told me. She approved the divorce right away. So, if somebody is going to kill another person, it doesn't have to be with a gun...they WILL find another way to kill that person, etc.

Now, comes the story of the powder (ricen) sent in the mail to President Obummer and the Mayor of New York. Is that where this country is headed? Some day, we will all have to line up, and have our mail checked for a foreign substance, which could kill us. SHAME!
Newtown, CT; A dozen or more little children were murdered in this community. In think, in all the tradgedies I've seen over the years, this one is more about mental health and parenting than the gun issue. The young shooter in this story never wanted to be around a lot of people. It was his mother that insisted that he attend certain schools and mix in.
In my knowing very little about this story, I think anyone could reason, that this kid needed mental help from a young age. It was his mother that kept insisting and insisting that the kid go to a normal school and graduate like a normal student. And, that's why the mother was shot and killed first by the young killer...The mother should have recognized that her son was different, and the young man should have been locked up long before the tragedy. In this case, I probably blame the mother, as much as I do the kid that did the shooting.
17 year old bomb-maker; In a recent news story, a high school kid was arrested, for making bombs in his room at home.
"I should have done more." Those are the words of Joe Paterno, the former football coach at Penn State. For years, Joe Paterno was my hero, but when this story broke, I had second thoughts. As the story turned out...Joe Paterno got the easy way out...he died! This is the most shameful of stories, because the lousy game of football was the most important to Joe Paterno...much more important than the sexual abuse of little children. The statue of Joe Paterno was taken down, and his image was reduced to that of a pervert. SAD! But, that's what glory and money will do to a person...
My younger brother was sexually abused by a priest in the Catholic Church, and after the incident, my brother was never the same again...living a life as an alcholic and living in the streets for over 30 years. The Catholic church, until this day, would cover-up all these pedophile priests and hide then in the church someplace. Since my brother's sexual abuse by that priest, I have never attended another Catholic church, or any other brick and morter church. My brother has suffered so much and for so long...because of just one person. If I ever found out the name of this priest, I would buy a gun, and shoot him.
What were these two old ladies fighting about anyway? A grusome story about a 73 year old woman, who beat the 83 year old woman with the claw of a hammar over 37 times and killed her. At the trial of the 73 year old woman, the judge said, in all the years that he had been on the bench, he had never seen a crime so heinous, that he sentenced the 73 year old to life in prision without parole.

As I said earlier, there are plenty of ways to kill another person...it doesn't have to be with a gun...
Advice; You'd better not get into an argument with anyone thses days...you might find yourself saying hello to the claw of a hammar...THIS SOCIETY IS SICK, SICK, SICK...

Like you said, the vast majority of people are nonviolent and friendly, as well as cooperative and caring––like so many in the crowds at the recent Boston bombing.
As far as your fear of going to public events. I think that you may feel that something you've written has made people angry with you, or you're just getting a little bit of dementia as you age (like my grandmother, and uncle) making you paranoid. ;-)
