I think every state in the union, has to focus on ehtics and transparency in their governments, and not let corruption get out of hand. 

The following article was written by Viki Harrison, who is the Executive Director of Common Cause, New Mexico, and the piece was printed on the OP Ed Page in the Albuquerque Journal on August 8, 2013, and the piece is entitled;

"N.M. needs an ethics commission"

The article reads as follows;

"In Harvey Yates' op ed published in the Journal on August 1, 2013, Yates calls for an oversight committee to be established in New Mexico 'with authority to investigate alleged bad acts within New Mexico government."

We couldn't agree more...

While the majority of elected officials in New Mexico are honest, hard-working people, the few that skim the edges of the law and do not conduct themselves as the citizens believe thay should are basically left to do as they please with no oversight from the Legislature or the executive branch. 

Common Cause New Mexico along with the League of Women Voters of New Mexico, the Foundation For Open Government and other government groups, supports a truly independent ethics commission to hear cases of corruption, mismanagement of state funds and ethical concerns by the public.

We are ready to support a comprehensive bill that would accomplish such a commission without infringing on anyone's First Amendment rights.  New Mexico is one of nine states without an ehtics commission, and New Mexico deserves a strong independent, bipartisan ethics commission that operates transparently. 

For many years, numerous legislators have attenpted to pass an independent ethics commission, only to see their efforts fail.  Unfortunately, some of the proposed legislation allowed the commission to keep almost its entire work secret...while threatening whistleblowers with fines and jail time for speaking out. 

Common Cause. New Mexico has worked diligently on a model ethics commission bill, and we are working to see it introduced in the upcoming legislative session.

Sadly, the worthless self-serving U.S. Congress leads the way, as being the worst institution on the planet.  All the worthless Congress thinks about is to get re-elected to another term, to screw the taxpayer's.  The whores in the Congress are not worth the money they make, and they will do their best to stay on the 'gravy-train' for themselves...of course...I consider the Congress...the cesspool  of the nation...

But, the country is filled with liars and cheaters...people who cheat and lie on their resumes; cheat on tests throughout school to get the advantage...and that's the way some people found their way to the Congress...lie and cheat your way to get on the gravy train.  There are many people in the Congress, who have lied and cheated their way into the Congress...so, they've been doing it for a long time...lying and cheating is a way of life for some, and they make no apoligies for their behavior!  Some people will do anything to get their hands on money, power and influence, etc.
