One of our biggest illusions is an unrealistic belief in having control in many aspects of our lives.
Why is holding on to such illusions not productive?
There are things we can be effective in spending our energy on and there are outcomes that are a waste of our precious time and energy to worry about.
In my observations, many things that I have worried about in the past, I had little or no direct control over.
Also many things that I had direct control over, I had to become aware of them over time.
I have pondered how much control I have in my life and what I can impact directly.
I have realized there are many things that I have no control over.
- I have no control or knowledge if I will be alive tomorrow.
- I have no control over functions of my organs.
- I have no direct control on stopping wars.
- I have no control over what Mother Nature does.
- I have no control over how others may react to my statements.
I also know that I am not totally helpless, and there are certain things I have control over!
I have controls over what I may eat, watch, read, think and how I respond.
Understanding the scope of our controls is a blessing and it is very liberating when we let go of what we have no control of.
We can just invest our focus and energy on what we actually can impact.
Make a list of top 5 issues that you spend your energy and time on to fix.
How many of them require change in others?
How many of them do you actually have control over?

One thing that I have let go of is the fear of dying. I'm at the age where my contemporaries are dying. I'm at the age where I am fulfilled with what I have accomplished in my life. I'm at the age where everything here according to what I know, will be going downhill. The sooner I die, the less everything will go down hill along with me.
Recently, I have found that I have a growing swallowing problem. Checking with the experts, my doctors, I have learned that my throat (esophagus) and stomach are fine. The problem appears to be a bone growth on my spine that is pressing on my throat, deforming it. I was just told that operating on it would be too evasive.
So I believe I will let go of trying to cure the problem and just live with it until it kills me.
