Amanda's World is the story of my niece, who, at age 28 has lived a world of silence and confusion because she was born premature and suffered brain damage at birth. Not being able to fend for herself Amanda has been taken care of by her mother for all these years. As I visit her several times a year, I look into her world - Amanda's World - and often wonder what she thinks, feels and sees in that private world of hers. I dedicate this writing to you Amanda and to that private world of yours that I can only imagine.

Amanda’s World : Staring out into infinity with all those dreams – the emotions – the words – all combined into one and not knowing what to do with them .They are there, but can’t come out! The universe is her very own –her stars – her comets – the warmth of the sun and the silver of the moon – they are her universe in her own way. It is her own universe – no one can take it from her and we dare not try to invade her world. The silence of her world –the ever present silence- it’s a still calm that she struggles to understand, but the silence is quiet. It’s her peace! With a glow upon her face – that ever present glow – a radiant glow that catches you for a moment in awe – and she notices her world around her, but doesn’t understand it, but she acknowledges it with that ever tempting half smile –a grin - ah yes! It’s that glow that catches our attention and the innocence of her smile and grin are only secondary. She brings joy to her surroundings –those beings – it’s her way of communication. The eyes –those eyes that keep staring at those surroundings and wondering what is going on – she tries to understand –we never know –or will we? The eyes that win -the tints that glow. We notice that ever present sparkle in those eyes –that’s all we need to know. A heart whose love is innocent –a heart at peace with everything else – a heart that receives you with a joy beyond. A heart that is her own ! We never know! She has her world –we dare not invade it –it’s her world – her own private world – but we only try to understand –and yet all we know is that it is Amanda’s world…………………………..
