The world is in chaos and hatred proliferates. Lately the Evangelical Christians have particularly joined the hate mongers. Recently a "Christian" pastor who stood with the Republican frontrunners at the debates stated that those killed in Paris deserved to die because they “loved Satan.” Amazing. Over the years other Evangelical groups such as a Texas based Baptist church has traveled the country to demonstrate at funerals of American soldiers killed in action stating that they died because God is punishing America for being tolerant of gays and that these soldiers will go to hell.
The Republican presidential candidates appear to embrace this mentality stating that non-Christians should not be allowed in office, that only Christian refugees should be allowed to cross into the United States, that doctors should not treat gays, that gays should not have the right to marry. Some Evangelicals believed that gays should be killed—as ISIS believes and does. Last year a proposition was put forward in California that would allow anyone to kill a gay person in “whatever manner is convenient.” Luckily the proposal did not obtain the necessary signature. Evangelicals believe that the fight against the evil of ISIS is one of Christian vs. Islam. Some have even referred to our fight as a new Crusade.
These sentiments are identical to those put forth by fascist ISIS.
Both the Koran and the Bible reject soundly these assertions. So does the Constitution which states that religion shall not be used as a test to run for office or fit to be elected. The separation of church and state was carefully thought out by America’s founders but these groups seem to want to have a theocracy and have the government run only by Christians and for Christians. Sorry to say these homophobic and Islamophobics do not express America’s ideals, values or hopes. The Republican party has become a party of manufactured patriotism, remanufactured history and extremist rhetoric. I pray that America will reject this monstrous mentality and begin to once again take up the values that made America great. At times I am ashamed to be an American but I am hopeful the American people will come to their senses. If not we are no better
than those we are fighting against.
I have noticed how easy it is for those devoutly religious to conjure up prejudice viewpoints from their particular faiths. As you have so well pointed out, this sort of behavior is very dangerous.

When his supporters are asked what they think of it, they approve his action and even say so much as they saw or heard the same thing. It appears that they want a dictator, because they are ignorant and weak, thereby needing strong guidance from someone who very likely would be a despot.
Well said. Home grown terrorists, those 'self-radicalized' by hate radio and hell-bound to emulate their enemies seem to have followed the edict to 'love one's enemies' ... in a 'do unto others ...' embrace. Reminds me of Abe Lincoln's remark, that he wanted his preachers to perform as if they were fighting off angry wasps, perhaps predicting the War of the Rebellion. No need to be ashamed. To be at war with ourselves is to be American.
