The "unlawful" arrest of Paul Bruce

                 A few years ago, i was living in Kenya at the time when i received a phone call from an army freind serving in Northern Ireland that Paul Bruce had been taken from his home in Somerset by armed R.U.C. officers accompanied by local police. Apparantly he was wanted for questioning concerning arms dealing and the killings of numerous terrorists in various parts of the warzone of Northern Ireland. Paul was whisked of to Castlereagh R.U.C. station in Belfast a notorious headquarters were, it is claimed that torture is commonly carried out on unfortunate suspects. Not a place to have a weekend break unless its your legs having the break. Paul himself will have to tell you the details of events that occured while he was in the custody of the R.U.C.. Fortunately it appears that Pauls arrest was reported to a minister at the Ministry of Defence this resulted in immediate orders to release him and get him on a plane home. Can you imagine the devastation that would have overcome the British Government if things had been allowed to go any further. The I.R.A.s top solicitor was standing by to defend Paul Bruce, can you imagine the repurcussions. The following day numerous articles about the incident appeared in the newspapers, not one containing any true facts. In fact shortly afterwards Paul Bruce was subject to a vicous campaign of character assassination, a true David against Goliath scenario. The R.U.C. has subsequently been renamed but apparantly thats it, its still the same beast under a different name. Business as usual.
