Why Aren't Politicians Required to Take a Test?
by G. G. Stokes, Jr.

If every important job in the world requires training and license. Why are politicians exempt?

Why aren’t politicians required to take a test before running for office? After
all, they’ve placed requirements on everyone else. They seem obsessed with
making sure that only qualified people hold certain jobs.
So why not theirs?
Here are just a few examples of jobs that require testing and licensing:
cosmeticians, CPA’s, real estate agents, doctors, teachers, lawyers, plumbers,
electricians, and carpenters. Even drivers have to pass a test to be licensed.
So why don’t politicians, who have arguably one of the most important jobs in
our society, have to prove they’re qualified to make the decisions that affect
300 million Americans?
It does seem logical, doesn’t it?
We often hear people complaining that our elected leaders don’t know what
they’re doing. Here’s a way to put those fears to rest - require that aspiring
politicians take a course covering the Constitution, economics, American
history, insurance, educational policies, and whatever else they want to stick
their noses into, and then have them take a test. They fail, they don’t get a
political license and they can’t run. Sounds like a good idea to me. After all,
if the people who make the laws don’t know what they’re doing, they might just
make stupid laws that bankrupt the country. Oops! Too late.
