First let me say a big THANK YOU to everyone that took the time to really read my poem, The Old Man. Now here is my explanation of the poem and its purpose..........

Wow! Sorry Ya'll! Somehow it didn't

load the explanation!

Ok, Here we go!

When I wrote this poem it sort of

wrote itself. I was just the fingers

that typed it! Its message I think

was very simple in that, no one is

perfect and life sometimes throws

us some pretty hard things to

swallow!

In this poem the young man had

lost it all in his battle to gain

material things in life. He didn't

really realize what he had until

it was gone! In my mind he

was a hard worker and a good

husband and father.

He was just never there for his

family physically. As you read his

wife left him taking children

and home.

He was hurt, confused and

devastated.

The old man is all alone and

give's advice to the younger man.

In the poem the younger man isn't

even sure he really ever spoke

other than to ask him to sit for a

spell.

At the end you noticed where the

young man is alone.

The old man in his years of heart

break and wisdom was trying to

teach the younger man a lesson.
a lesson of forgiveness, faith,

strength, of letting go and moving

on with his life.

In my minds eye the younger man

was so dispondant and depressed.

He was actually feeling as if he

had nothing and no one left

to live for.

In his mad dash for wealth and

acceptance in this world he had

lost what he later realized was

the most important things in our

lives, our familys!

In this story/poem the old man

and the young man were one in

the same!

I wasn't actually looking for one

cut and dry answer at all.

We are all different and all will

see things differently,

we are human!

I wanted you to really read and

come away; I had hoped, with

the message inside the story/poem

of forgiveness and acceptance!

You can give the same article

for reading to a dozen people

and very few will come back with

the same answer when you question

them.

We as human's each get out of life

or in this case a poem/story what we

want to. Its how we precieve things

and how we are conditioned to

respond.

I wanted to feel your response and

hear your real thoughts.

It becomes so automatic sometime's

to just read very quickly and forget a

few hours later what was really being

said or what was important.

In this instance, It truly did not

matter to me if you saw it as I did

at all. Our perceptions are what

make us different and what makes

the world and its people so diverse

and exciting!

If anything, I wanted you to come

away after reading "The Old Man"

with more understanding of

forgiveness, of self and others.

Maybe the Old man would be a

teacher, angle, alter ego, guardian,

friend, your child, etc.

Maybe, just maybe, in the reading

(maybe even more than once) to

find the idenity of the Old man,

the message was passed on!

Faith can move mountains and

forgiveness can cover a mulitude

of sins!

I want to thank each one of you

for reading and really responding.

I truly hope the intent of the

poem/story touches some deep

place inside you and somehow

plants a seed!

God Bless!

Merry Christmas and

Happy New Year to one and all!

If someone is reading this now

but missed the poem,

I encourage you to read it!
