We were happy and content in Katy, (Houston) Texas for 16 years. No snow, no tornadoes, a few hurricanes every few years, but altogether it was a great 16 years. Fruits are in abundance and very affordable, like regular size Avocado for 33 to 50 cents each. In New York City - $1.28 each and you are not even sure whether its good or bad until you open it. You know the black spots.
All kinds of restaurants are in Houston: -- Mexican, South and Central American, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, Mediterranean, Texan and American of course. I am sure there are French Restaurants as well.
Decisions, Decisions, Decision…
Like a typical household, we have furniture, china and silverware, man and woman’s clothes,
stuff in the garage and plants in pots and etc. Decisions as to what to donate, what to give, whom to give, and what to pack.
Then I called PODS for one 8 feet x 8 feet x 16 container. At first , it sounded large enough, but if you measure it out in your driveway, it is not that large really. So now in addition to the hundreds of decisions my wife had to make, she also worried about whether the container was enough for our stuff. So you start down sizing, more and more.
Finally
We complete packing the things in carton boxes and finally the day came when the three men came to load the furniture and the boxes into the container. The leader of the group was an expert. His techniques was common sense and of course I am not a mover so I did not have any sense at all in that regard. But these guys used only ¾ of the container and left me and my wife ¼ of the container for the last minute item. That was great. But then my wife and I started to worry again. Will the ¼ container be sufficient for the last minute stuff we had, like the extra Microwave we kept in the garage, the Turbo, the Nikken Water Filter, etc, etc.
Done
When we loaded the last minute items, we still had 1/8 of the container empty. Thank God!!
I could have taken a free ride in that space from Houston to South Carolina for free. Next time you move, call me. I think I am now an “expert”.
