Sexual abuse is not always violent. more often than not, it is seduction. That's why children don't tell. This is a reality. We must be very careful what we impress on children's minds, or they'll be confused as to who's really showing love.
I originally wrote this as a poem, but due to Linda Law's short stores, I thought it best posted here. Awareness is needed. Single parents, alcoholic parents, women in domestic abuse situations and passive mothers, are the targets of predators. They know children with these type of parents are blind to their designs on their children.
These children are often emotionally abandoned, left to figure out life on their own. They need affection and assurences that are not available in the home. Thus, they become prime prey for sexual predators. Often, the predator in either in the home, or very close to the family, giving him access to the child. Soemtimes threats are used, sometimes violence. But mostly it's seduction. Preying on the child's lack of emotional support is the most prominent way a pedophile gains the childs trust.
People often wonder how some abuse can go on for long periods of time: This is why. The child may sense what is happening is wrong, but if there is no pain, it leaves the child unsure of how to handle this, or why it's wrong. Emotionally innocent and ignorant how to defend themselves against the sexual advances and demands of an adult.
Then there is the element of guilt that a child feels because they can't stop the abuse. The predator always using this as a mental tool to continue the abuse. The longer it goes on, the guiltier the child feels. They feel responsible for what is happening to them, because the offender tells them they should have stopped it long ago, now it's too late, no one will believe them, and because they "let it" go on so long, they are bad. They even tell the child that it's how adult show love to children. Their is alot of emotional manipulation. Alot of emotional seduction. Please read, if you have the foritude for it. Don't be squimish, WE NEED TO BE AWARE!

"Daddy works and pays the bills, he buys me pretty dresses with
lots of lace and frills. Mommy feeds me very well
but she's too tired to help with my homework
daddy helps sometimes, when he's not drunk or out with his friends
When I come home from School, they greet me pleasantly
but they don't hug or kisse me, but I'm sure they care
they take good care of me, but they're not always there
Mr. Jones tutors me after School
he is my very best friend. He tells me I'm so pretty
and hugs me when we study at his house
he reads my poetry, says I'm a true artist
mom says I should stop daydreaming, and do my homework
Last week, Mr. Jones hugged me and asked me for a kiss!
I was unsure at first, but I know he loves me like my folks do
so I let him kiss me. It felt funny at first, then I liked it.
Mr Jones gave me $ 5.00 and told me not to tell mommy or daddy
because they would be jealous and take it.
He is the only one who holds me when I cry and feel sad, so a kiss between friends is not a bad thing, is it?
He told me I can call him Mark instead of Mr. Jones, because I am old enough now that I'm 10 years old.
Mark likes to hug me alot. I don't mind. I feel so safe in his arms.
He makes me feel nice and warm when he rubs my back and squeezes me tight. He makes me feel special. I don't mind when he kisses me down there or touches my chest. I know he means me no harm
he never does anything to hurt me. He never yells or calls me names.
And when my folks fight and scream at each other,
I can go to him for comfort. He understands how that makes me feel
when my parents fight. Whenever they fight, I run to his house, and he always holds me and kisses me in his big soft bed. Today he called me and told me he loves me! I feel so excited,
and a little scared because he said now that we love each other we can make love. I don't know what that means, but he said it will make both of us feel so good and make him very happy. I want to make him happy because he makes me happy, too. He is the best friend I have. I can tell him anything. And I will never tell about Mr Mark Jones and me. I'll keep our secret very well.

You described this most heinous of crimes to our young with immense accuracy. I can hear the poor girls pure voice of innocence in this masterfully crafted piece.
Terribly sad,
