More informaton on this very sensitive subject.

There can never be too much awareness for something so horrible, and as worldwide as the abuse of a child. It is long term damage that no one can really understand except a victim, a survivor. The deep emotional scarring, the mental damage, years of emotional anguish, feelings of guilt and worthlessness; (“Why didn’t I  stop it? Am I a bad child? Why me?” The hiding from what was never their fault:  “Am I different from other kids? Do other kids know? How long will I feel like this? If I tell now after waiting so long, will mommy really hate me? Will anyone believe me? Doe it matter now, so long after it’s stopped? Why did I let him do all that stuff to me for so long? How long will it hurt?” )

As I said before, there is no way of seeing the monster that harms kids. They are the ultimate Chameleons. They are Doctors, Coaches, School teachers, babysitters, and parents. A child is so fragile, so innocent; we must make them aware when very young. This should start in the home, but because the mothers of abuse victims so often, are so passive, so co dependent, former abuse victims themselves, it usually doesn’t happen. There is, in most cases, no help in these homes, that's why children are so easily preyed on.   Parents,
Schools, Churches, daycare centers, hospitals and all other public service agencies must step up the outcry, the no tolerance factors.  More information needs to get into the hands of our children so they can learn how to protect themselves, to fight back, and sound the alarm when they are in such danger!

Denise, I know this is painful, as we have discussed before when I posted the three child abuse stories... I did not do an "article" as I am trying to get enough true stories together for the book I'm working on right now... This subject remains taboo in many areas, actually...everywhere...and we just have to do everything we can to get this word out... and to instill some self esteem into those who have been harmed...and as you said... the harm is inside and out...and does last a lifetime...even under the best of circumstances... Good for you... and let's keep raising hell... lindalaw

Denise, I couldn't agree more: The message to our young is, "Its' Not Your Fault." We have a campaign in Australia at the moment to hopefully get the message across to our young. Huge posters are being displayed where children frequent; supermarkets, video stores, schools etc. The image is of a young boy weeping and the caption reads: "Its' Not Your Fault." thank you Denise for dealing with this most important topic, your writing may not win the war today, however, you will most definetly strenghten the battle and keep it in the spotlight where these deviants will not be able to prey on our most precious possesion, our young.

Thank you again - You are helping.

Happiness always, Stuart

You are so right Dee, the more survivors speak out the more awareness those who don't always understand begin to and with knowledge comes a way to help these children...

As a survivor myself, I whole-heartedly agree with everything you said here. You even described my mother (a survivor herself) with amazing accuracy. Thank you for speaking out. Rebecca
