When the high calling is recognized, and when we put on humility, we then receive gifts from on high; we are under grace.
One such gift this writer has received was and is the gift of contentment. I articulate about that gift in my two-part memoir, The Reprobate - Tate Publishing. One day I came across Joyce Meyer speaking on the radio, and I recall how she said, "get rid of that wishbone and instead get a backbone." Wow, that just kind of stuck with me. Many folks I run into seem to be seeking the world's entertainment to be content, but it doesn't last. Why is that? It's because the world is tainted; it's because this world is full of vanity. Real and lasting contentment is only found in the Holy Scriptures. I must say that this does not imply that we can't have fun; can't enjoy this life.
So what is the formula for contentment; for being under this grace? It can only come from humility, regular reading the Scriptures, and listening to spiritual music and having a daily prayer time; at least some quiet time so you can hear God speaking to your heart.
Here is the key: "And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be of anxious mind. For all the nations of the world seek these things; and your Father knows you need them. Instead seek his kingdom, and these things shall be yours as well" (Luke 12: 29-31).
If you remember anything, remember this: "Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will exalt you" (James 4: 10).
P.S. This may seem dull, but this writer never has to leave my dwelling to be content; to be happy. I have my spiritual music on cassettes and micro-cassettes, I have my Bible, and I have a radio to listen to. I also have books to read and I have my writing. I have no lack. "The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing" (Psalm 34: 10). So there it is my reading friend. Grab it and LACK NO GOOD THING.
Love ya!
